A pizza delivery driver says he was fired Thursday after scaring off a robber with a gun. Miguel Waide says Dominos Pizza fired him for violating company policy.
Police say Waide was delivering a pizza at the Brentwood Apartments near Harry and Woodlawn Wednesday night. Waide tells Eyewitness News it was an unusally large order for the neighborhood and a suspicious man was hanging around by his car as he went up to the door. Waide says no one answered the door and he feared it was a set up.
Waide went to his car and got a handgun out of the trunk. As he turned around, a robber armed with a gun ambushed him.
"As soon as I pointed it at him he just dropped his gun on the ground and started running. I managed to get a shot off right as he dropped his gun and then I fired another one right as he started running," Waide says.
Waide says in that brief moment he made a decision not to become a victim.
"I know the odds say you're not supposed to resist when you get robbed, but I just don't believe in that. I'd rather take the chances in my own hands."
Dominos Pizza wouldn't comment when asked if Waide was fired. The company did say all employees sign a "no weapons while on duty policy".
Waide says he understands the company's decision and admits he knowingly violated the policy to protect himself. Wichta Police say Waide was not arrested for firing at the robber.
Much too wordy. Just looking for trouble. He should have said he feared for his life. It is hard to keep your mouth shut after an encounter such as this, much harder than most people think.
Still, the outcome was pretty good. He was not shot, arrested or charged. Just fired. He will likely be hired pretty quickly, even in this economy.

I’d rather be unemployed than dead.
Not a very good shot.
Fired for protecting himself. Sickening.
He was probably scared. Most folks would be in that stste.
I think this old "conventional wisdom" has pretty much been shown to be just plain false. I think, the more people resist, the fewer crimes there are.
Maybe gunowners need to turn their back on Domino’s...
Domino’s Pizza - If you like cardboard covered with sauce and other stuff.
I was a pizza delivery guy back in HS just to help out my parents. Didn’t pack but had to rely on my survival instinct, just like Spiderman’s spidey sense. The most unusual one was when I delivered a large order to a house where 2 rival gangs had a sit-down. They were so happy for the food they gave me a $20 tip plus a 6-pack of beer. From what I was told, the sister of the leader of one gang was marrying one of the members of the other so it was a happy occasion.
Cool. No more Dominoes. I’d rather give my money to a Mom and Pop pizzeria anyway. It annoys me when this corporations push their liberal politics on the rest of us.
They could have just as easily had their drivers sign an agreement that reliquishes Dominoes from any responsibility if they pop someone: because Dominoes doesn’t have the right to limit Constitutional rights.
What about a Freerepublic boycott of Dominoe’s — better yet a Tea Party boycott ?

Lucky man. We had a young fella here brutally murdered while making his delivery. Two perps beat and stabbed him to death. Got nothing but pocket change and cold food. Too stupid to understand the guy arrives with pizza in the box. Not money. And, the criminal geniuses did the crime at their own (delivery) address. Then, wondered how they got caught.
This is for liability purposes. If a delivery boy is killed, Domino's will get a replacement. If the delivery boy wrongfully shoots someone, Domino's has to pay up. Replacing a dead delivery boy is cheaper than paying a judgment because of an armed delivery boy.
It's all about the Benjamins, people!
That's good!
Yup, I got to that point and passed on the job when they presented me with that.
the more people resist, the fewer crimes and dead victims there are.
Nah. You just sign the stupid thing and forget about it, like this guy did.
Pizza Delivery Driver Still Alive. Domino’s, As Always, Sucks
(this is my headline)
Wonder what would happen if Domino’s put out a bulletin - OUR DELIVERY PEOPLE CARRY!!!
