Guy Molinari, the Republican power broker and former Staten Island Beep, ripped Newt Gingrich as unfit to be president yesterday a day before the front-running GOP candidate was set to attend a Tea Party rally in the borough.
At least 600 people are expected to pack the Staten Island Hilton Garden Inn today to hear Gingrich speak at a 2 p.m. town-hall meeting.
But Molinari, who served with Gingrich in Congress and supports Mitt Romney, rained on the former House speakers parade.
God help us if Newt Gingrich is elected president. I wont vote for him. I love my country too much, Molinari said.
Molinari, head of New Yorkers for Romney, said he had found Gingrich to be untrustworthy.
He said that Gingrich, as House GOP leader, broke his word and bumped him from a committee assignment.
It happened to so many others. How do you trust a guy like that? What kind of trust would he get from other parts of the world? Molinari said.
Gingrich brushed off the remarks.

Newt is more than a few notches down from my top choices, now out of the field. That said, I have a TON more enthusiasm for Newt than I did for McCain.
Actually, this is a prime example of just how broken our primary system. Romney will inevitibly get a lot of delegates from out of the running blue states like NY, NJ, an Ca. These could very well put him over the top, even if he loses all of the in-play states.
In more ways than one. Andrew Cuomo is probably the dumbest SOB to ever become the governor of any state. This boy not only ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, he doesn't even know where the drawer is.
Fortunately for his puppet masters, he is very easily led. The Molinari Clan do enjoy power in Staten Island, but have been very lackluster in their appearances in Congress. Susie Molinari is about as Conservative as Dede Scozzafava. As far as Neut being down on their clan, that probably is a point in his favor. Guy is probably deluding himself into thinking he is on Romney's short list for a post in the putative Romney Administration.
In his defense, he's dumb, but nowhere near as dumb as Cuomo!
.
It's a tough call. The Cuomos held the highest offices in the state, but the Landrieus have not. The Molinaris are generational congress critters.

The Molinaris are such RINOs I was able to see their horns from Jones Beach, and they were on Staten Island.
Of course they are for Mitt.
Boy, talk about holding a grudge.
Gingrich didn’t give me the committee assignment I wanted 15 years ago, so he’s unfit today?

Typical though.
Yet his daughter had no problem serving with Newt in the House GOP conference, with praise.
RomneyBot!
Molinari is certainly entitled to his opinion. In a perfect world, Newt wouldn’t be my first (or second) choice, either. But here in the real world, we’re running out of choices. Sarah declined, Cain’s out, and Bachmann is probably too far back in the polls to have much chance at the nom. It’s basically down to Gingrich, Romney, or a late-game comeback by Perry at this point. And Romney is a non-starter for me.
Now, do I worry about Gingrich’s chances against Obama? You betcha. There is a chance that Newt will be the disaster some predict he would be. But again, unless Perry makes a comeback, I don’t see what other choice we have. The GOP’s best are still a young bunch - Jindal, McDonnell, Rubio, etc. It’ll be 2016 before most of them really come into their own. We have to fight the best we can with what’s available in 2012.
Either that, or embrace 4 more years of Obama. And frankly, if that happens, I think his policies will be so entrenched by 2016, that the damage will be irreversible.
Based on living in NYC for the last eight years or so, I have come to read with skepticism any sentence containing the phrase “New York Republican”. When Nader said there was not a nickels worth of difference between Republicans and Democrats, he had to have said it based on spending his adult life north of the Mason Dixon line. On the other hand, NYC Democrats (i) embrace policies and positions that would make OWS kids blush and (ii) claim to be “Democrat” to lend themselves some legitimacy.
That makes Newt one better in my book- this whiney guy sounds like kind of a douche nozzle.
Bingo! I'd vote for my toaster if it ran against Obama. I don't understand all of these "write in" folks, or those that pout and say they'll stay home because _fill in the blank_ washed out.
Interesting. The RINO’led GOP and its demrat Marxist handlers killed Cain. Should be clear sailing for the RINOs, right? Doesn’t appear to be working out that way. Gingrich is being savaged on his history and record, Romney is on a slippery slope to oblivian and Perry is a footnote to history.
Pardon my happy face.
Whenever I hear that the current batch of candidates is somewhat lacking, my own response is that this process is doing its job by exposing the weaknesses of each in ways that my not be otherwise evident, even in state selections. Four years ago, I was CONVINCED that Fred Thompson was unbeatable, and that we agreed on everything. Five months ago, I felt the same way about Perry. The reality is that all of these men (and woman) are far from perfect. They are human. And you're never going to get a candidate who sees things EXACTLY the way you do.
BTW, it brings a tear to my eye, watching you grow in just seven years from “DemforBush,” to “Newt Gingrich is not conservative enough to be our nominee.”
