The Department of Justice late Friday afternoon staged a document dump of more than 1,000 pages related to the Operation Fast and Furious investigation, including some e-mail exchanges critical of Senator Charles Grassley, and one exchange that raises questions about what some Justice Department officials should have known was an erroneous statement in a Feb. 4, 2011 to Grassley.
An earlier estimate of the number of documents from one sources has been reduced down from about 2,000, reported earlier by this column.
The documents have gone to the House committee investigating the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation. My colleague, David Codrea, talks about the situation here.
The document dump comes just six days before Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify about what he knew and when he knew it. Congressional sources close to the investigation suggest that this document release is timed to give Holder cover, and overwhelm Congressional investigators who have been digging into the scandal for the past 11 months.
I am so personally outraged by Senator Grassleys falsehoods, former Arizona U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke wrote in an email regarding the allegation that a weapon connected to the ATF operation was found at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. It is one of the lowest acts I have ever seen in politics.TPM Muckraker
This column learned that former U.S. Attorney for Arizona Dennis Burke, who abruptly resigned in August, had called Grassleys office to apologize for some statements he made, calling members of Grassleys staff willing stooges for the Gun Lobby. A source said Burke did not personally speak to Grassley.

Gunwalker ping.
Indeed. Release the documents here, and we will examine them in great detail in 5 days flat.
Trash dump ping.
Another use of the Alynski tactic “overwhelm the system” Do you honestly think any of these documents are documents that will incriminate? Instead of throwing them out in the trash they dumped them on the house as an arrogant act of defiance.
Just a 1,000 pages ?
In an investigation like this there are probably more than 1,000 emails alone
My guess....only small potatoes of info will be in them.....the real damaging stuff is still under wraps
Since they are capable of reading a 2,000 plus page Health Care bill in 48 hours or less, this should be a cake walk!
He sounds disturbed.
Like Michael "The Cause" Mann of State Penn.
Criminal prosecution is the only way to get at the truth.
Friday afternoon ZERO document dump. . . . . .
Sorry. I respectfully disagree.
The REAL damaging stuff is in the shredder.
Burke was an aide and stooge to Big Sis before he got involved in Fast and Furious. And he, like Big Sis, was promoted well beyond his capability.
If they are type written I sugget they feed the documents through a high speed copier, grab a paperport program and after do a search by various words or names to save time.
Correct.
It’s way past time to start handing out indictments. I’ve said from day one of this fake investigation that absolutely no one will ever be held accountable. Even though no more proof is needed to indict Holder on obstruction of justice and giving false testimony to congress.
This unfortunate inaction taken by Issa, Grassley and congres will gauarantee more innocent people will die. This will only get worse now.
Good luck trying to find that magic piece of paper that says, “Yeah, we’re guilty.” Does anyone really expect criminals to play by the rules ?
These operations speak out loud. They are criminal acts in and of themselves. Start squeezing the participants - hard. We don’t need documents as much as we need congressmen loyal to their oaths. A little testosterone would be nice, too.
...or sealed by the DOJ....like the evidence at the shooting shot of agent Terry
The documents purportedly support Holdass’s contention he knew nothing of this. So, on the one hand, a program run by DOJ involving the sale of thousands of guns illegally some of which were used to kill both US and Mexicans plus a US Agent was beyond the knowledge of Holdass while at the same time he was so intimately familiar with a voting rights case involving a few black muslims he knew it had no merit to bring to prosecution. Sounds to me like selective hearing or memory or both.
