Herman Cain 2012 drop-out decision: 'Leaning toward' campaign suspension
Politico ^ | 12/02/11 | Maggie Haberman & Reid Epstein

Posted on 12/02/2011 6:39:28 PM PST by freespirited

Multiple sources familiar with the discussions told POLITICO Friday that Herman Cain is “leaning toward suspending the campaign,” in the words of one, who stressed no decision has been made.

“He’ll probably get out, but nothing’s been decided,” another source said.

The one-time leader in the Republican presidential polls is scheduled to address supporters at the opening of his Georgia state headquarters Saturday. He was set to meet with his wife Friday to discuss the future of his candidacy at the end of a week at which he and aides repeatedly said he was “reassessing” his candidacy.

Cain himself has sounded conflicted about the decision, saying in interviews this week that he was eager to spare his wife and family any further pain. But at events in Michigan, Ohio and South Carolina this week, he’s taken a defiant tone.

The source cited the toll the period that began on Oct. 30 has taken on his family — something Cain has discussed publicly over the last few days.

The two options he’s weighing are “continuing forward with the campaign, or suspending the campaign,” the first source said.

But Cain may still decide to fight, the source added. Either way, Cain has made clear he is not conceding the allegations against him are true, and also that he plans to keep fighting to clear himself somehow, although it’s not clear what form that would take.

What’s also become clear is that some of Cain’s advisers want him to keep going.

Cain’s campaign spokesman J.D. Gordon pushed back on the rumors that the candidate would likely leave the race, saying, “I don’t know where they are getting their information.”

Gordon referred back to Cain’s comments on Fox News on Thursday night that he’d make a decision by Monday and at a town hall on Friday, where he said he’d announce his future plans on Saturday.

“I don’t have anything to add from what Mr. Cain said in Rock Hill, S.C., and on the Sean Hannity program,” Gordon said.

Cain aides were preparing for a campaign through the Iowa caucuses as recently as Thursday night, when the candidate’s Iowa chairman Steve Grubbs says he met with campaign manager Mark Block in Des Moines. Grubbs said they even submitted a campaign mobile app to Apple for approval on Friday.

Cain’s schedule is filled well into next week, with plans to campaign in Oklahoma on Monday and to speak at the Republican Jewish Coalition forum on Wednesday. The national campaign also just launched the Women for Herman Cain group, naming Cain’s wife Gloria, as its head.

“We were planning the campaign for the rest of the month. We have a lot of work to do,” Grubbs said. “We’ve got all sorts of things going on, so I would be real disappointed if he did drop out.”

There’s a phrase that about sums up what I’m feeling about a lot of the “conservatives”: Et tu, Brute?

I’ll plug my nose and vote for anybody but Obama, but I’ll probably be feeling like warm spit while I do it. Mostly because I’m beginning to think that America deserves what Obama is doing to her.

I haven’t watched much SNL since the 1970s but this weekend might have a skit depicting what happens when Herman gets home to his wife.

Its Polutico. They have been attacking everyone EXCEPT Romney. As of right now, they are part of the “Mitness Protection Program”. Lately, they have been writing hit pieces on Newt Gingrich using anonymous sources.

I received an email at work stating that Sarah said that Cain was quitting.

I could not agree with you more.

What a bunch of double standard, double-crossing Politicians we have on both sides of the aisle.

I am sick of Newt Gingrich getting a God Card Pass.

One more picture of his mistress, home wrecker and Nordic Lewinsky, wife #3, Callistra as “first lady” makes me vomit.

If Cain drops out I hope he and his attorney, Lee Woods, go after every woman who has made harmful allegations towards Herman Cain. Sue them and find out who pulled them out of the gutter and put them on National TV...every Monday morning!

I am sick and tired of Politicians. I'm getting too old to even care any more. Herman Cain was the only candidate on that stage that inspired me and brought hope that we could change this Country. The rest of the crowd are just a bunch of politically motivated wannabes and/or has beens looking to get back into the Beltway and the Money!

Right now I'd vote for Donald Trump or Third Party.

Screw the GOP!

I'm not discounting the possibility that another Republican could be behind the deep ops research and subsequent smear.

So what will be you glib comment if he does suspend the campaign?

Suspends? I don't know, maybe:

"What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Germans?

Forget it, he's rolling."

Even if he does suspend his campaign, it doesn't prove Politco reliable, but only that their goal was accomplished.

> You must not have kids.

LOL! I have ELEVEN kids, nine still at home, and TEN grandchildren so far! We live in the sticks, half a mile from the nearest neighbor. God has been very good to us.

I *WILL* indeed vote, as will my wife and my four oldest kids. We’re just waiting for all the fallout to pass.

Gingrich is a bright guy, but I fear that he wouild sell out the conservatives in a heartbeat, and I don’t think he can win, either.

>> Well, he obviously didn’t do any of what was said.

He didn’t pay off a bimbo for thirteen years?

Hey, wait a minute. He ADMITTED he did. And didn’t tell his wife.

What about that one? Did he do it, or no? He SAID he did. Are you calling Herman Cain a liar?

That’s pretty much how I feel too, except that I would think long and hard before voting 3rd party. Anybody would be better than Obama, and if Obama wins again I truly believe that it will spell the end for this country. The communist-Islamist takeover will be completed within his 2nd illegal term of office.

Right now I can’t stand to listen to the so-called “conservative” talkers who have poo-poohed the rule of law and thrown under the bus any of us who care about the lawlessness that the whole system has shown in protecting somebody we know is guilty of crimes to cover up his own ineligibility for office.

Right now I’m sick of all the candidates.

Right now I’m worse than sick of the lying media and the Axelrod Chicago that sleeps with them. I’m sick of their love-juices squirting all over the US countryside while the rest of us gag at their prostitution and corruption.

Considering that is my sentiment as well, it’s reasonable to conclude a lot of folks are feeling the exact same thing. So the GOP turn their backs on Cain, in the name of pure political power and having an establishment guy, and as a result lose the Presidency and the nation. Sounds prophetic... and extraordinarily depressing. But I’m not going to play their game anymore either.

The thing about prophesy is, to be a credible prophet you have to have a track record. Do you? If so, please link to it.

Otherwise you’re not really a prophet. I mean, *anyone* can *guess*... maybe you shouldn’t brag yourself up as a prophet. After all these things CAN be checked.

Wouldn't it be great if he came out with his wife, both of them spitting mad at all this and vowing not to be driven out.

I pray for a rousing and fiery speech tomorrow.....Cain style!

Prayers up!

Have you stopped beating your wife yet? Huh? Did you do it, or no? What about that one?

He said he helped her financially. It was reported (though I don’t know on what basis) that her texts were asking for money. And his responses - when he responded to about every 5th text of hers - were to ask if she had tried to get a job. When those texts are released we will see how accurate the claims are. But he has never said that he “paid off a bimbo for 13 years”.

Sounds just like what my husband deals with as a pastor. And no, I don’t know everybody he helps.

Now go and tell everybody that my husband has admitted to paying off bimbos without telling me about it. That seems to be about the quality of thought you’re up to.
