At a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday, GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said children in poor neighborhoods have "no habits of working," no one around them works and they get cash illegally.

I swear I’m expecting half of us may get banned from FR for supporting Newt Gingrich if some of these people have their way!

I'm not sure that I really support Newt. There are many things about him that would make me nervous, but if the alternative is Obama and the continued destruction of America, I think I could get on board.

lindsey grahamnesty lifetime ACU rating 90

john mccain lifetime ACU rating of 82

Looks to me like that measure is not a measure of who someone is or how he will govern. I would say the ACU rating today is very flawed... because there is no way to explain these two and use that measure to prove anything about newt.

“All poor kids are lazy criminals??”

Thats not what Newt said. He said that in a lot of inner city Ghettos there are no jobs to be had, most people are out of work and live on welfare so kids have no way to experience working and making money legally as opposed to selling dope. He wants to establish work zones in these poor areas so kids can get a partime job just like in the burbs and experience the normalcy of working a regular job. Its a great idea.

Oh, and what life experience do you have working with kids and families in the slums of a large urban center, to know this isn’t a distinct possibility? I know it sounds cynical [hence my caveat,] but it’s true. Meh.

Let’s narrow it and look at the big ticket issue.Healthcare.

Obamacare is ROmneycare which is GOPhackcare. Obamacare is a REPUBLICAN invention. Obamacare was first introduced on the national, modern scene by Newt Gingrich. In 1990 he started pimping for Obamacare and has been pushing a mandate and government CONTROL ever since.

In 2003 Newt was the lead pimp/cheerleader for medicare D.He had been pushing for that for years.

As Speaker he was the one who allowed entitlements to get out of control when back then there was a chance of keeping it managed.

As Speaker, Newt whipped the caucus into supporting the creation of the SCHIP entitlement.

Newt has a record second to none among Republicans of advocating for, and or implementing, multi trillion dollar health care entitlements that piece by piece takeover the health care industry.

Heartwarming, that young man is a SON most normal parents would be very proud of. I will bet, he will take this experience into the future as a lesson in life. He is a self starter, and I predict he will do very well. These types tend to not repeat the past in raising their children. Bravo to him.

I’m not sure, but it is definitely cultural, and it doesn’t appear to be dependent on theology.

No one of any consequence has made any threats against anyone supporting newt... Jim made a statement the other day where is said he was not in love with newt but that he could vote for him or Cain should that be who is nominated. He will not allow any promoting of a communist on this site and mitt is a baby killing commie.

Now those of us on the extreme right of the spectrum will continue to discuss and debate newt. You can support newt and you can vote for newt... you can call newt a Conservative... but none of that makes newt anything but the progressive big government guy that he is. Thomas Sowell and Mark Steyn have both written about this. Some of us will not stop telling the truth about newt. He is just another mccain... he even promised THIS MORNING to run his campaign as mccain did... by not making the election about obama but making it about himself. He will not attack his republican opponents and he will not attack obama... "New Tone" and all of that. This clip was played on Good Morning America this morning and Jake Tapper was the interviewer.

Go back to nothing but section 8 housing, and gov surplus food that they have to pick up once a month. Good luck trying to sell that for cash.

I would go further. No Section 8 homes in the suburbs. Have soup kitchens in welfare neighborhoods as the only supplement to govt surplus food. As far as the burned out areas in Detroit, bulldoze them level and install trailer parks.

Let’s hope GL doesn’t read this.

Once in a while, a great-great while, a kid will slip the bonds of poverty and a second class education and make it. Sadly, they are few and far between.

Section 8 housing projects should be limited to industrial areas in cities, far away from working families. I don't care who thinks it's cruel, it shouldn't be a fun option.

I supported your quest for Mike Pence a while back, and I did like him.

But at some point (I’ve reviewed your post) you have to order off the menu. When absolutely no declared candidate is acceptable to you, then, I don’t know what else to tell you.

I for one am not ready to give up.

Does anyone who’s spent any time with kids from poor nabes deny what Newt says here? Both my wife and i,her more then me, taught desperately poor kids in terrible nabes. These kids had no one in their lives who obtained cash through work. They had zero understanding of the relation of work to achievement, and this showed in their approach to school. I don’t think the govts, city, state, and federal could possibly have enough placements for a 14 or 15 year old to learn work’s value and the unions would scream child labor if they tried, but Newt’s absolutely right about the problem. And if you examine the snotty white OWS kids, I think you’ll find a preponderance who grew up with an absent, divorced father paying the bills and no correlation to dad’s getting up and going to work with the clothes, vacations, tuitions, and Christmas presents.

Thanks for the ‘script.

>>Every first generation successful person I know started work early.<<

One thing, these people, largely are *not* first generation folks ...too many have been on welfare for generations.

Not buying into the Dimwits approach/perspective to/of life.

The poor I work with, have no bio-father present, and mom is in jail. They are being raised by older sibs and relatives. What we would describe as a *intact family* is not present.

Starting in the teen years, what these kids desperately need is a vocational education [building trades, agriculture, engine repair, culinary, etc.]; instead they are *all* told to go to college. For a long time, kids were steered away from the vocational schools in CT and there aren’t too many of these programs left.
