Newt Gingrich Said What?

..A few of Newt Gingrich’s… Not-So-Greatest Hits:

August 30, 2004: “Now he’s back, preaching the gospel of party moderation. At an Aug. 30 forum held by the centrist Republican Main Street Partnership, Gingrich heralded the GOP’s new, bigger big tent. “Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve argued in favor of electing the moderates,” Gingrich said… He even chastised the fiscally conservative Club for Growth — a group that finances primary challengers to Republican incumbents they deem too liberal — for not getting with the program. “Their strategy is explicitly wrong,” Gingrich said. “The key is to elect more Republicans and have a bigger majority and be more inclusive.”

In June 2005, the New York Times raved about a “balanced and thoughtful” report from a bipartisan task force headed by Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, and George Mitchell, the former Senate majority leader, declaring, “Lawmakers should take the time to at least thumb through this report, especially those who have been demanding Secretary General Kofi Annan’s resignation, supporting the ill-conceived nomination of John Bolton as the United States ambassador to the United Nations and backing the latest benighted attempt to withhold America’s legally obligated dues.”

In October 2005, Gingrich called for “universal but confidential” DNA testing.

In April 2006,...

In April 2007, he raved about the leadership skills of New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg:....

....In 2007, he accused the Bush administration of fighting a “phony war” on terrorism, and declared “a more effective approach would begin with a national energy strategy aimed at weaning the country from its reliance on imported oil.”

In 2008, he hailed John McCain’s efforts in the crafting of the TARP legislation:....

300 million people in this country, and we’ve now got Perry, Romney or Gingrich to choose from. Sad.

In that case, I pick Perry. He at least says to close the border first, then have the conversation with the American people on what to do with the people already here. Newt chose wrong in the New York 23 race, remember that? I forgot about that until hearing Michelle Malkin on F&F this morning. He had the chance to back the conservative yet chose not to. We should have won that race. Newt most conservative in the race as he now says? I don't think so. IMMHO

In all honesty, I don’t think Gingich would be a bad president to have, unlike how I feel about Romney. Gingrich would lay waste (as much as possible) the executive extablishment. And that is where liberty is losing ground.

He is not an Obama, who doesn’t like legislatures or any check to his power. Gingrich would be more likely to reverse executive orders than put them into place. And I can see him going to individual agencies to ask them “what is it you do here? We don’t need this done.” Similar to how he got rid of the elevator operators and ice deliver to offices with refrigerators.

Gingrich also has a respect for the congress. And if a conservative congress is elected to thwart his occasional Rino tendencies, then we’ll be better off.

We need someone who can rein in the execustive establishment and in my opinion that’s either Cain, Gingrich, or Paul. I’d love to see the three of them battle it out in the primaries and caucuses.

If Newt gets the nomination you will vote for him. Matter of fact you will vote for ANYONE but the “Magic Negro” to start getting us out of this national disaster of a presidency.

Good point. Another great micro-manager was LBJ. I like a guy who has core convictions but Newt is out to prove something. Plus he actually is a political animal.

Newt thinks everyone needs to just be quiet and listen to him.

you obviously do or you wouldn’t have applied it to Newt.

Yeah Newt's a flip flopper but Perry can't put together a cohesive statement. Cain has women problems. The rest aren't even on the radar. Looks like Mittens is going to win Survivor 2012. Unless...

Dear marstegreg,

In 2004, the Republicans increased their majority in the United States House of Representatives from 229 seats to 232 seats, and increased their majority in the United States Senate from 51 seats to 55 seats.

2006 and 2008 were the wipe-out years for the Republicans.

Perry is looking better each day and he's the one with the record of accomplishment, too.

Perry can effectively run against Obama as the one with the record of creating jobs while Obama destroyed them.

Perry has launched a salvage campaign that has completely failed. He has gone steadily down and is now barely at 2%.

There is a very good reason for that. Newt on the other hand, has gone steadly up and is now in the 30% range. There is also a good reason for that.

Newt is highly skilled in Government, demonstrates tremendous knowlege and has reconnected with the base, independents and average voters. Sooner or later, you might figure that out. It would also be much better if you stop trashing him for somethiing you know very little about.

Newt is a man with a clear and intelligent plan. Even more so than Perry. Perry is finished. Plain and simple. Get over it.

And yet it is Rick Perry, as a governor, who is battling the EPA, Big Education, trial lawyers and intrusive, job stifling federal dictates (and winning battles) -- "I will make Washington D.C. as inconsequential in you lives as possible" -- Rick Perry. He's steered Texas through the Obama economy and succeeded.

This has the potential to be very damaging to Newt: http://theiowarepublican.com/2011/ron-paul-blasts-gingrich-in-new-web-ad/

[Perry can effectively run against Obama]

I highly disagree. Perry has been forever labeled as stupid and unable to perform under pressure. Perry is also not well liked among the base.

The voting public never forgets that about a candidate and the MSM will ram it home around the clock.

I like Gov Perry, and I have been rooting for him to get some traction and make this race competitive. Somehow, though, I just can’t picture him on a stage with the appointed one and doing well.

Newt's at least as big of a flip flopper as Mitt.

Amen. Finally someone utters the truth. Newt will say whatever you want to hear and thinks he is so important and smart, you should just love him for it. A conservative he is not.

Nice article. Good ol’ moderate Newt. His performance in the debates almost made me forget his extensive history of dancing in the middle, selling out conservatism, and playing footsie with the democrats. Almost.

The media will savage him

That's a given for any Republican nominee. One thing different about Gingrich is he has so much baggage the media cannot resist overplaying their hand. There will be a voter backlash against the media at some point and the attacks may lose all effect.

Gingrich has a better chance than Mittens of defeating Barky. That's the main reason voters are breaking towards him.
