AFA announced their "naughty or nice" list, retailers that support or oppose Christmas
Click here for AFA list ^

Posted on 11/30/2011 7:25:07 AM PST by Gopher Broke

As the Christmas shopping season begins full swing, AFA and OneMillionMoms.com has prepared its annual "Naughty or Nice" retailer list. We have taken the top 100 national retailers and reviewed their websites, media advertising and in-store signage in an effort to help you know which companies are Christmas-friendly.

Over the past five years, your AFA/OMM has stood firm in the "War on Christmas." Companies who once refused to acknowledge Christmas now have Christmas "shops" inside their stores. Many of them now liberally use "Christmas" in their advertising and in-store signage. Sadly, there are still some companies which refuse to use "Christmas." They continue to insult and offend Christian shoppers by sticking with their politically correct "holiday" term. We have also included the stores that joyfully acknowledge Christmas.

Click on the "Naughty or Nice" link to find out where you can feel good about spending your hard earned money because these businesses share the same beliefs as you do at CHRISTmas! Happy Shopping!

If you do not feel right about a purchase you have already made remember you can always return it and give your business elsewhere. Let us know if you find a retailer who needs to be placed on the “Naughty or Nice” list.

I just heard our downtown has decided on “Happy Holidays” as their salutation. Guess I’ll have to shop where Jesus is the reason for the season.

Call me a liberal, but I’m less “militant” on this issue than I used to be.

I have acquaintances all over the globe, and while I’m not trying to sell them anything, I recognize that a lot are not Christian, so if I issue a worldwide holiday greeting from my family, I’m likely to say Happy Holidays.

I see the “antis” on the list are big-name companies across the world. Would Victoria’s secret sell fewer garments to muslims by using the words Merry Christmas? Maybe so.

Who am I to decree what holidays private companies recognize? I can certainly not buy from them if their choice of recognized holidays offends me. For example, I probably would not buy anything from Kwanzoo pushers, or anyone who supports its torturer founder Karenga, but I’m not going to waste time telling everyone what a monster he or the company is.

I offended someone here a couple of weeks ago by saying Happy Holidays when it wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet, got dressed down for not using Christmas. Thought that was over the top.

I just don’t see it as much of a hugh deal.

Phew!
Dropped some cash on Amazon on cyber Mon - glad to see them on the “For” list...
But question Macy’s on “For”...
They have used Susan Sarandon, “peace signs”, and other not-too-conservative-friendly entities in their ads...
Macy’s is presently on my “To Boycott” list.

I think you make some good points. However, I think the reason some conservatives are “militant” on the issue is because it’s clear that there has been a concerted effort to eliminate the word “Christmas” from our language.

A few years ago, you did not hear the word “Christmas” used in advertising or promotions. Now we see that word is returning. It was puzzling to me that the word describing the holiday celebrated by 96% of Americans had disappeared from the public vocabulary. We know that happened due to political correctness, but we’re not supposed to say anything.

We should not be decreeing what holidays private companies reconize; you have a good point. However, it’s clear which holiday during the “holiday season” is the one which triggers the most gift giving. And that holiday is called Christmas.

I see your point about this not being a huge deal, however, it’s a huge deal to the other side to eliminate the word “Christmas”, and I think that’s why there is such push back nowadays on that issue. These companies are making sales due to Christmas, not due to a generic holiday season, so it’s gratifying to many of us to hear them acknowledge that the holiday is Christmas.

HA! I see Target has finally got religion!
They were a perennial scofflaw on this list.

For a company that is against Christmas, Victoria’s Secret sure bombards me with SPAM emails this time of year. (made one online purchase for the wife several years ago and now I’m in the Database From Hell.)

Not to mention the term Holidays has a religious practice connotation to. It comes from Holy Days and was meant to represent the season that included Advent.

I notice that L L Bean is the only major sporting goods store that is anti-Christmas. Boycott those liberal pukes.

People are trying to marginalize Christianity any which way they can. It is my opinion and only my opinion, but I believe that to the extent that Christianity grows and prospers in this country that this country will have a bright future. If we allow Christianity to be marginalized and demonized, I think this country will shrivel and die. As I said it is just my opinion, but I think it is more than a big deal. I think that if we don’t hold the line and push back against the anti Christian forces that our country has no future. Supporting Christmas is just one small part of this.

Clearly those folks are unfamiliar with the Soviet Union’s failed 70 year attempt to stamp out Christianity with jackbooted thuggery and police terror.

I don’t automatically assume use of the term “happy holidays” is related to a “war on Christmas”. That term has been in use since at least the 40s and probably before. I’d probably have to look at the retailer’s behavior as a whole to make a determination.

Does anyone know whether Target still bans the Salvation Army bell ringers from their properties?

Beyond the Christmas boycott (which I observe scrupulously) that is a very big item on my boycott list.

I have worked with the Salvation Army during disasters and no one is on site earlier and no one does it better. An awesome organization.

I might add, during WWII, when the Red Cross was in back of the front lines by 20 miles or so, the Salvation Army was at the front lines delivering hot coffee and doughnuts to the troops within a few hundred yards of the German lines. Hot doughnuts, BTW.

Are retailers like LLBean really trying to “marginalize” Christmas, or include Hannukah? I’m quite sure Bean has a large number of Jewish customers, as do the other retailers on the list.
I am a Christian and have no problem with “Happy Holidays”. As a child I knew it could, and did, include Christmas and New Year’s. I never heard of Hannukah until I got to college.
IMO, the AFA is carrying this too far and contributing to the perception that Christians are petty and mean.
