Man accused of trying to assassinate Obama is found competent

The man accused of using a high-powered rifle to try to assassinate President Obama has been found mentally competent to face the charges against him. But prosecutors aren't taking any chances.

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, of Idaho is accused of parking his car outside the White House on the evening of Nov. 11 and taking aim with an assault rifle. He fired up to nine shots, including one that struck a window of the Obamas' living quarters. That bullet was halted by security glass.

The president was never in any danger. He and the first lady were in California at the time. But authorities have yet to say whether their two daughters, Sasha and Malia, were at home on that Friday night.

This "Idaho man" was OWS, right? Shouldn't that fact alone qualify him as insane?

That was fast!

Usually it takes them years to resolve the sanity issue.

There is something up.

They are fast-tracking this for some reason.

There is something they don't want us to see.

The finding only dealt with the competence of the intended assassin. It did not deal with the competence of the intended victim. That would have been interesting reading

high-powered rifle

If it was really an "assault rifle," it was by definition a low to medium powered rifle. As rifles go.

How mentally competent could this 'assassin' have been, considering he made his 'attack' when his victim was out of town?
... Well mentally 'competent', but stupid, I suppose...

“This “Idaho man” was OWS, right? Shouldn’t that fact alone qualify him as insane?”

..or making a blind shot at a fortress with bullet proof glass, thinking he might kill the WON...that isn’t a sign of competence to me.

There is something they don't want us to see.

If there was something they didn't want us to see, wouldn't they have had him declared incompetent? Then everything could be hushed up behind the wall of "the doctor-patient relationship" and HIPAA.

I don’t see how he could be trying to assassinate someone who was more than 3,000 miles away in Hawaii.

Here's one. How competent could he be since he fired at an empty house. The target wasn't even in the area. How come some high powered lawyer hasn't jumped on this guy's defense team yet?

I think you have it backwards.

There is not something they want us to see.

Obama will try to morph this left wing loon into an evil right wing capitalist, who would have stolen your homes and cars and even grandma's poor meal of gruel with a rain of bullets had the one not heroically interposed himself between this man and you.

Obama’s crowd thinks this way and they would lap it up.

If he was trying to assinate obama, he obviously was not very competent.

I was going to say “assasinate” instead of assinate, but then I decided that the typo was better.

He fired multiple rounds from a semi-automatic rifle at the White House. I think that qualifies as an assassination attempt. More to the point, I don’t think you can argue it was anything else. His ignorance of the President’s schedule notwithstanding.

With four Presidents dead by assassins in a 99 year span you don’t mess around with nuts like this. Lock em up and throw away the key.
