At a town hall meeting at the Institute of Politics at New Hampshires Saint Anselms College Tuesday, Rick Perry asked that all of the college students in the crowd who will be 21 by Nov. 12 support his bid for the presidency.
Say what?
The voting age in the United States is, of course, 18. And the 2012 election will be held on Nov. 6, 2012. (The New Hampshire Republican primary, which brought Perry to the state, will take place on Jan. 10).
Those who are going to be over 21 on November 12th, I ask for your support, Perry said, eliciting a few chuckles from the crowd. Those who wont be, just work hard. Because youre... counting on us.
The gaffe can be easily chalked up to a slip of the tongue. In fact after the event Perry spokesman Mark Miner said simply the governor misspoke.
But whiffing on electoral basics will hardly help Perry as he struggles to recover from a series of gaffe-filled and lackluster debate performances (the most memorable of which was the oops moment during a Republican debate when Perry failed to recall the third government department he would eliminate as president).

Perrys not an idiot? ping.
Maybe he was thinking of states 51 thru 57.
But the GOP guy will get laughed at more at every blip, of course.
Blips have happened...and will continue to happen...they're normal.
At least he knows how many states are in the USA.
(Unlike the current occupant of the White House)
As an orator, Gov. GoodHair is making George W. Bush look like William Jennings Bryan.
It has only been 40 years since the voting age changed. Perry hasn’t kept up with the latest news.
They only play it with non-Liberals.
But useful-idiot non-Liberals take the bait every single time.
It's called the Twenty-sixth Amendment to the US Constitution, Rick, and it's been the law of the land for 40 years. Look it up.
Lets hope this guy isn’t the GOP nominee. He’ll be surrounded by a non-stop circus (mostly of his own doing) rather than substantive, adult debate. He reminds me a good bit of Carter. The voters of GA seemed to like the guy but he was completely UNFIT for any higher office esp one that would have such wide reaching ramifications. Guess Perry is going to play the slow learner tho and make a fool of himself at a national level.
“What? Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!”
whoa. That one is pretty bad. heh
I’m not going to argue with you. No, Perry is far from an idiot...would you like me to list all the foul ups Cain has said? And those fouls up are as serious as a heart attack compared to voting age.
Is stand-up comedy part of the 6th Rick Perry comeback? If so, it’s no wonder the first 5 attempts failed.
Memory and Fact Coach- Toughest job on Team Perry.
lol! Rick Perry is the Pat Paulson of presidential politics.
Good one!
