Part of transcript: CAIN: ... because it is a package. Secure the border for real, promote the path to citizenship that's already there. And the path to citizenship that's already there doesn't say anything about amnesty. Thirdly, enforce the laws that are already there. But make it easier for companies to be able to enforce the laws. And fourth, empower the states. Don't give the states any, you know, special things to do. Just empower them to do, within the law, what the federal government is not doing. That's my approach to the whole issue.
--- On another thread, a biased article tried to depict Cain as being pro-amnesty. Here is the full transcript this time with the part omitted by the other article that provides clarification.

PING
Incorrect title, please correct.
Cain Wants Illegal Immigration Issue Shifted to States (Cain says he won’t deport, up to states to):

That was the messed up thread I was trying to correct by posting the actual transcript! *Reading the whole conversation is... believe it or not... better than reading snippets taken out by CNN!) You are constantly dishonest on anything that even touches on Herman Cain.
Cain’s position is easy to understand.
Just give state law enforcement more power than they already have under federal law, which is extremely limited in scope.
Some people have this ridiculous notion that ICE can be in all places all the time and have no local law enforcement to back them up.
For our immigration laws to be effective, the federal government needs the help of local and state law enforcement.
Bump.
Yeah, because your title, which inserted things Cain didn’t even say, is “correct”, whereas mine isn’t? Insanity.
I happen to believe that is four problems.
1. Yes, we must secure the border with whatever means necessary.
2. Enforce the laws that are there.
3. Promote the path to citizenship that's already there. We have a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. It's called legal immigration.
4. And then, I happen to agree with empowering the states and allow them to deal with that issue. If we work on the right problem, we will be able to solve it.
Thats... exactly... what.... he..... said....
Truth bump
Oh, and welcome to Free Republic. :-)
You really should stop spreading lies. We understand though you are a rino lover. Trying to eliminate the real conservatives in the race.
Just how would Cain do that? He hasn't really spelled out the details of any of his proposals...period.(as he likes to say) For instance, who will enforce the laws we currently have and by what means?
BUMP!
How would Newt explain to the man who has been in this country ILLEGALLY for 24 years that he has to leave while his neighbor who has been here 1 year longer can stay?
Amnesty is the wrong approach. First and foremost, Americans don't want it. Secondly, any amnesty that did not apply to all ILLEGAL aliens would be fraught with complicated scenarios such as I have described above. And why should we create new laws that would reward ILLEGAL behavior when we could just as easily enforce those that are already on the books?
Americans were more opposed to the 2007 Bush amnesty scheme than they have been to any other issue in the history of this nation. What makes Newt and his fellow amnesty supporters believe conservatives, independents and other Americans have changed their minds just 4 short years later?
Cain can't explain this in a coherent manner. Look over the transcript for yourself.
It’s late on the east coast...
Constitutionally immigration is a federal domain. The feds claim that and lately they’ve done a pitiful job of it. But it’s theirs. Newt’s approach is federal. Otherwise one ends up we all different kinds of state policy. Cain answer to a state that want amnesty is to revert back to federal law. You ca’t have it both ways....Cain’s position is a cop out.
Does Cain’s policy require a granny raising 4 American grandchildren children to leave the country(to a country she ran from 20 years ago).. or can she stay and apply for citizenship while she works at her job and takes care of the children?(amnesty)
Who do you work for La Raza, that is the kind of pitiful story they come up with...
Why don’t you get the full answer from Newt and then post it. Waiting...
