COLLEGE STATION, Tex. Rick Perry arrived on the campus of Texas A&M University in the tumultuous fall of 1968, cut his hair short, regulation military style, and donned a uniform. College students across America were rising up against the Vietnam War, but Mr. Perry, a member of the Corps of Cadets here, would not be among them.
There will be no Columbia, no Berkeley here, the university president, Earl Rudder, declared that fall. When a small band of antiwar protesters took to the steps of the Memorial Student Center, a building ...
I dont want to use the word long-haired hippie types, said John Sharp, a Perry classmate and chancellor of the Texas A&M University system, but a person who did not look like they fit into A&M said some kind of Jane Fonda-type stuff, and I remember Perry got up in his face pretty quick over that. He took exception to it, shouted the guy down.
It was an experience that both expanded and narrowed him, taking him to exotic locales while cementing his Texas roots and the traditional, conservative values that have been so central to his political identity. On Air Force missions overseas, he told students at Liberty University this fall, he had his first encounters with oppressed people an experience that sharpened his idea of the United States as a beacon of democracy and helped convince him that Americans cannot isolate ourselves within our borders.
The college student who backed the Vietnam War is, at 61, the hawkish presidential candidate. Mr. Perry has called President Obama irresponsible for ending the Iraq war, urged the overthrow of the Iranian government he would not rule out a military strike and suggested he would deploy troops to Mexico to kill these drug cartels there.

The new york times.....one of the best papers ever put out on a mimeograph with reporters who take notes with crayons. The new york times.....voted most absorbent by parakeets across the nation.
“I love the new york times!”, said Bob at Bob’s fishstand. “We can wrap rotten fish in a copy of the new york times and no one can smell the rotten fish because of the stink from the paper.”
It's ducking bad design isn't it?
Cain is beating Alien Lover Perry by a mile. Ricardo can’t even get out of single digits. People find he fake, arrogant, and a loser. And guess what? t thank every one of those people.
lol. loser Perry is 7.7 percent. My question is who are the 7.7 freaks? Must be family because nobody else is supporting him. THANK GOD!!!!!!
I'm not a Perry supporter nor a Perry hater. I have no favorite at the moment, except it's not Mitt.
Now, to this article: what a lie it is!
While tens of thousands (and maybe, perhaps right after Nixon had troops go into Cambodia to strike at the commie sanctuaries there, hundreds of thousands) protested, MILLIONS served in Vietnam and elsewhere!!!!
The idea that every young person was a hallucinogenic taking, long haired stinky leftist hippie in the 60’s is a lie perpetuated by the elite Liberals in today's academia, media and the democratic party.
A lie, folks. Fortunately for our country, hippies were a minority. Sadly though now, very few know that.
I hope and pray he can’t. Our country cannot afford a stupid President and out of the 8 Perry is the dumbest. Romney is the flopper. Newt is the immoral. Paul is the crazy. Huntsman is just there. And then we have three genuine conservatives running. Sanotrum, Bachmann and Cain. that is your choice. MAKE IT NOW! The others are unacceptable.
Mmmmmmm.......great thread. Just love it when the Perry-pea-brains start foaming at the mouth. Foaming is a Perry trait-—like Perry in those laughable ads of his.
Perry’s campaign plans got BBQ’ed into oblivion———he wasn’t supposed to be polling zero-4 percent (depending on the poll).
I hope he keeps talking——the more he talks, the more the voters cringe.
I see Perry ditched his “used-car salesman” smirk for the Fox ads. Best move yet——that smirk was a huge poll-sinker.
“Hold your noses, everyone. Liz just pinged the odd squad... theyll be here soon.”
Don’t worry, that Ohio babe’s shift starts right now, along with my shift (we punched in together).
...another day at the office for us.
Liz just pinged the odd squad... theyll be here soon.
Why are you complaining about this. I am not sure if I am on the ping list but the people you call the “odd squad” only has the interest of America. Why are you not approving of a conservative? Bachmann, Cain, and Santorum are conservative and yet you are supporting a liberal republican. Why?
Dam good.....wish we could get that on a tee shirt.
There really complaining about your ping list. They are very upset that you have the right to a ping list. Can you believe these people? We are very lucky their candidate only has 7.7 percent. lol.
Me too. I don’t wear political tee shirts, but I would make an exception for that one. lol.
Welcome to “Hicksville” AKA Perryland.
You know the drill-—have at it, my friend.
Wrong! Again.
You're just a bunch of attack dogs that have made a joke of FR.
7.7% is good news in Hicksville....lol
than you are dumber than I though.
Unlikely that is possible Napdoofus...
This calls for SOL’s “Perrydactyl “ visual. SOL, you still got it, ol pal ?
magritte,
It doesn’t matter because in the end, I will win. Perry will in no way be our nominee and if you think 4 weeks and a few days that he suddenly is going to win, you are nutty. I love this by the way. You can criticize me all day long but I love America enough to take it. As long as my goal of “NO TO PERRY” is successful than I am thrilled!!!!!!!!!
Bob
Normally I wouldn’t reply to you. But I want to remind people here that you attack a genuine hero yesterday, a navy seal who is a great guy.
You attacked him because he supports and loves Perry.
I don’t love Perry but I really like him. He is the best candidate by far. He’s conservative, an experienced leader and has no ugliness in his past.
You people who come on here have nothing substantive to say against him.
You make broad statements like ‘he is liberal.’ He is not.
You say he’s pro-illegal. He called a special session to try to outlaw sanctuary cities in Texas.
You make vague childish attacks. This man mandated compulsory sonogram viewing for people wanting abortions.
He’s managed to make Texas one of the top states financially in spite of all the illegals that THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS LET IN FOR 40 YEARS. We just can’t get those people to move on out up to where you people live.
Perry is as much an up by your bootstraps guy as Cain, except he did have the advantage of being white.
You repeat the same old negatives over and over. They’ve been explained and dealt with but you mindlessly bring them up again.
Perry believed in the things he did. If you don’t like them, well, not everybody did, but he’s got a better percentage of being perfect than any of the others.
I would appreciate it if you would give it up or say something substantive.
But you got nothin’
