The telegenic Texan took two steps forward sitting in the center chair on Fox Monday evening. One step backward too alas, but more about that in a bit.
Gov Perry was relaxed and alert as he fielded a variety of questions. He smartly used his answers to remind conservatives why they should consider him.
This is a man who is a quick study and a formidable politician. Instead of just Texas this and Texas that he pointed out that the Lone Star state all by its lonesome is the 13th largest economy in the world. A nice way to pivot into what will be the big issue in 2012 without sounding provincial.
Zero-based foreign aid will not only warm conservative innards, it will play well as part of the spending argument. And he noted the UN can expect a zero-budget starting point. Long overdue and just hearing it made me smile. Asked about Pakistans aid Perry demonstrated gasp..nuance. He noted Pakistan is a difficult problem not the least because it has nukes. Nice answer.
Perry showed another vote-winning quality when he took ownership of his infamous no heart comment regarding those who disagree with in-state tuition for illegals in Texas. That comment, he said, was just wrong; and added that his wife gave him hell for it after the debate. But he didnt leave it there. He promised the southern border will be closed period a year after he takes office should he be elected. A panel member asked how this would affect the GOPs Hispanic vote. Perrys reply was politically astute to say the least. The Hispanics in this country are concerned like the rest of us with jobs and the economy. Closing the border, he added, will be understood as a matter of national security.

Huh? Re-read the post you're replying to. I wasn't injecting Palin into this discussion.
As far as Palin endorsing Perry in his last bid for Governor, what else was she to do - endorse Hutchison or Medina?
Palin chose Perry in that race for the same reason that most conservatives did. He was the best of a bad lot. That scenario wasn't much different from the choices we're now faced with in the 2012 presidential campaign.
Cas, out of my 23,000 posts to FR, I don't think I've spoken to you more than two or three times, at most. I'm not pestering you. I simply called you out for your nasty attack on Mr Edd, which was out of order, and unwarranted.
If you want to keep posting to me, go right ahead. I'll keep responding.
Mr edd sucks
Good luck with that
Medina Medina! Medina!
You really ought to ping a fella if you're going to run him down like that. You know -- tell him to his face?
The ignorant thing about your Perry/border comments is that Rick Perry has FUNDED AND DEDICATED a special unit of state police to do nothing BUT secure the border. Its called the DPS Ranger Recon Team. Google it some time. Texas taxpayers contribute millions of dollars to fund the purchase of specially equipped helicopters, canine units, elite sniper teams, and boots on the ground EACH YEAR to help secure the border.
I shall vote for Perry in the primary!
There is a very silent majority out there that are too.
LOL sorry it has taken so long to respond.
I have this to say:
“Oh yeah??”
:D
