Hosted by the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute, the theme of tonight's Republican presidential debate is foreign policy and national security.
The debate is being held at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.
CNN is carrying the debate live at 8 p.m. EST.
Participating candidates are: businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Reps. Ron Paul (TX) and Michele Bachmann (MN), former Gov. Jon Huntsman, and former Sen. Rick Santorum.
Would be a good idea except for one thing. I can’t stand Herman Cain. Except for Ron Paul, he’s my least favorite.
Yeah Americans don't want to live with 4 people per bedroom on a diet of eggs, beans, bread and water. Imagine that? Try paying a living wage and you will have no problem finding American workers.
” - - - Most illegals dont work like that. Its under the table. There is no paper trail.”
No need to tell me about it. I live in Texas and we are over run by cash only aliens. They flood our hospital emergency rooms with their English-speaking interpreters, and then get free medical care while we pay out the you-know-what to our hospital tax districts.
Crime is up, drug gangs rule our border and then hero Newt rides up and says it is all water under the bridge. Newt is just another PC, out-of-touch, Federal Politician. Bye, bye Newt.
It is all about the money. Americans buy drugs from Mexican drug gangs, Mexicans flee for their lives from the brutal Mexican drug gangs, (30,000 dead in Mexico in the last 10 years), Mexican aliens survive as best they can and thus overload our hospitals, schools and job market. We are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY! Newt, it is ALL about the money!
There is a 2000 mile Mexican/USA border, with 1200 miles of it in Texas. “Strengthening the Border” is analogous to p_____g into the wind.
The ONLY method that will work is to enforce the laws we have, pass new laws to make the USA hostile to illegal aliens, and then enforce ALL of the alien laws to the echo of the police whistle.
Racial profiling, random requests for USA ID, failure of language tests will help in the essential deportation process.
Aliens are not citizens, so they have NO US Citizen rights.
Not doing the above is just continuing the sissy, PC BS that has resulted in the illegal alien mess that the sissy, PC-Feds have put us in.
Now is the time for each State to ignore wussy Federal laws about aliens, and enact their own alien laws. The Feds can enforce their wussy Federal laws on Federal property, starting with the District of Corruption. Transfer the battle from our overburdened border towns to our overburdened Federal Courts.
Joe Arpaio has the right idea: ENFORCE THE LAWS THAT WE HAVE NOW.
BTW Newt, for a reality check just walk around any USA Southern border town at night, visit our emergency hospital rooms, hospital delivery rooms, public classrooms with Spanish speaking teachers, etc, etc, etc.
BTW, BTW Newt, Reagan tried amnesty 25 years ago, and then was undercut by the Kinnebunkport Kid. As a result, now we have an even worse alien mess. AMNESTY DOES NOT WORK!
BTW, BTW, BTW Newt, you stepped into the dung of the illegal alien mess last night, but look at the bright side: you and Perry can write a book together entitled: “ How We Lost to the Illegal Alien Tar Baby.”
So you think a McDonald's employee should be paid $20/hour? Wages are set based on what the job is worth, not based on what the employee would like his standard of living to be. There is nothing wrong with sharing housing while you work your way up. Did you go to college? I did, and I shared a dorm room with someone, and had to walk down the hallway to the bathroom and share showers with 40 people. When I moved out of the dorm, I rented a house with 4 bedrooms and rented those rooms out to strangers, and we put one in the basement too, so we could all share the costs. We lived on Top Ramen. When I graduated from college, I rented a room in someone's house to save up so I could buy my own house. What is your point? You do what you have to do to survive, based on the wage your job pays. If you don't like that wage, then get trained/educated/experienced to do a better-paying job. It's the way the world works. But Americans think they should get out of high school and make $100,000 and have a nice car, a house, the latest iPhone and all the techno-gadgets, and all without working for it.
The workers I was talking about were making $12 per hour plus overtime over 40 hours. We were working 84 hours a week, so do the math... it was paying $1272 per week, or $5088 per month, or $60,000 per year. And we couldn't find Americans to do the work.
Maybe you shouldn't bitch about "living wage" if you don't know what wage we were paying.
sorry, but the statistics are on my side on this one.
Its prohibition all over again...then if you are going to be consistent, make alcohol illegal. the financial, economic, legal and personal consequences even outweigh the other drugs combined. At least be consistent, which most of those who argue ‘well, alcohol is ok, its not as bad” aren’t.
He’s the only one other than Perry who is trying to deal with immigration in reality...and Perry is right, we shouldn’t be thrown off on this red herring UNTIL the border is secured. Its a perfect trap from the Libs.
Brilliant assessemnt,,,astute and right on target.
“Try paying a living wage”
Define “Living Wage”...
That’s a false dictome I’ve been railing against for years.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A LIVING WAGE.
Does it include $100 Cell Phone data plans?
$1,800 a month house payments?
$150 a month cable bills?
Yada, yada.
There is no such thing as a living wage. What may be a living wage for one person would mean poverty to another.
Recognition of the anchor baby law. They have kids here, then those kids are citizens by our law. The worker permit is a better way to handle it than citizenship.
Hopefully, he’s thinking in terms of Iran and Israel.
No, the Galvaston (sp) - Galveston - example came from Galveston circa 1980. Mr. Cain has been writing (in numerous columns) and talking about both the Galveston and the Chilean social security models since 2005. (See here: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=7095
Gov. Perry's Fed Up! book was released in 2010. It was interesting to see Neut "borrow" Mr. Cain's Chilean/Galveston social security lines, too.
FYI...Mr. Cain has also been touting the Fair Tax since at least 2006 :)
At this point it looks very possible, and that explains the democrat panic and irrational attacks on Herman with lying fraudulent lawyers and female operatives.
You would try to call me a traitor because I will not be squelched in opposition to your invitation to treat ALL Hispanic not here legally as herd animals. Riiiigth, you marginalize yourself quite well. Your effort to float the undistributed middle as your reason for calling me a traitor is also duly noted. Such alinskyesque tactics reveal an agenda. Taking the extreme position and demanding that all stand there with you is neother rational nor the spirit of Freerepublic. You may manipulate some into treating all illegal Hispanics like cattle, but Freerepublic is known for thinking readers and posters. That you want to mischaracterize me tells me you will try to mischaracterize others if they do no conform to your ecteme perspective. Agitprop comes to mind ...
Now, when you stop trying to generate hysteria, I'll be glad to re-enter the discussion of the issues.
Meaning....?
Ann has turned into an @sshat...
Perhaps. But that doesn’t make Gingrich into a conservative, which he is not.
