University hit by new climate leak ahead of talks (U of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit)

LONDON (AP) — The British university whose stolen emails caused a global climate science controversy in 2009 says those behind the breach have apparently released a second and potentially far larger batch of old messages.

University of East Anglia spokesman Simon Dunford said that while academics didn't have the chance yet to examine the roughly 5,000 emails apparently dumped into the public domain Tuesday, a small sample examined by the university "appears to be genuine."

The university said in a statement that the emails did not appear to be the result of a new breach. Instead, the statement said that the emails appeared to have been stolen two years ago and held back until now "to cause maximum disruption" to the imminent U.N. climate talks next week in Durban, South Africa.

If that is confirmed, the timing and nature of the leak would follow the pattern set by the so-called "Climategate" emails, which caught prominent scientists stonewalling critics and discussing ways to keep opponents' research out of peer-reviewed journals.

Those hostile to mainstream climate science claimed the exchanges proved that the threat of global warming was being hyped, and their publication helped destabilize the failed U.N. climate talks in Copenhagen, Denmark, which followed several weeks later.

Climategate also dealt a blow to the reputation of the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit, which is one of the world's leading centers for the study of how world temperatures have varied over time.

well, there’s actually two “semi-root” causes.

The first is a bunch of commies wanting to run the world and take away everyone’s freedoms,

The big lie continues. The emails weren’t stolen. They were leaked by an unhappy programmer, probably the one who had to document the computer code that allegedly “proved” global warming and who discovered that the work wouldn’t pass scrutiny in a programming 101 class, because of all the ad hoc adjustments to the data to make the temperature slope appear to be greater than it actually is.

The root cause is a rejection of a personal Christian God and the substitute of various pagan beliefs and tendencies. All the other “semi-root” causes flow from that.

The source code in that east Anglican leak was severely obfuscated by the tight coupling to data as you pointed out. Since the climategate data dump I have been getting notification from their list serve. If you dig deeply into that original project you can find some amateur PowerPoint trying to assert the global warming argument. I need to crack open their latest release and then hunt down this current data dump. I have been finding that almost nobody understands these various technologies enough to argue one way or the other. Apparently none of the politicians in Congress do either..

The fact they have no clue who did it and the hacker hasn't claimed fame most likely means a well funded intelligence agency is behind this. Russia sells a lot of fossil fuels so they are high on the list. The sand simians aren't sophisticated enough.

"Root cause" #3: An increasingly secular/atheist (or at least agnostic) western world sees humanity as the highest known power in the universe. If there is climate change occurring, it surely can't have anything to do with natural cycles that are too long for us to easily observe, or with that huge ball of fusion that moves across the sky each day. It *must* be due to our presence on this rock hurtling through space... and therefore, we should be able to "fix" it.

The alternative (humanity just going "along for the ride" and being terribly insignificant in the grand scheme to things) does not suit the egos of those pushing this idiocy.
