"Root cause" #3: An increasingly secular/atheist (or at least agnostic) western world sees humanity as the highest known power in the universe. If there is climate change occurring, it surely can't have anything to do with natural cycles that are too long for us to easily observe, or with that huge ball of fusion that moves across the sky each day. It *must* be due to our presence on this rock hurtling through space... and therefore, we should be able to "fix" it.
The alternative (humanity just going "along for the ride" and being terribly insignificant in the grand scheme to things) does not suit the egos of those pushing this idiocy.
