Anita Perry, the 59-year-old wife of Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, has been very actively campaigning for him on her own all fall.
Now, she's taken on a new assignment. Mrs. Perry has launched an online drive to recruit hundreds of volunteers for what she calls the Perry Strike Force.
This would consist of Perry fans who would travel to Iowa and work across the state Jan. 2-4, getting out Perry caucus-goers to the hundreds of meeting sites on the evening of Jan. 3. (Don't worry, the BCS Championship Game is not until Jan. 9 this time.)
"With over 1,700 caucuses convening that evening," Mrs. Perry says in an e-mail blast to thousands of Perry supporters, "we need volunteers from across this great nation to assist Rick and I in reaching as many Iowans as possible. If you are interested in our Strike Force effort and would be willing to go to Iowa January 2-4, 2012, please contact our team by e-mailing strikeforce@rickperry.org "
While every campaign relies on grassroots get-out-the-vote efforts on election day, Iowa's caucuses present an unusually demanding challenge for candidates. They are no all-day drop-by-and-vote-before-work-during-lunch-or-after-work affairs.
They all start across the state simultaneously at 7 p.m. Central time on a typically cold night and can run until close to midnight as neighbors try to persuade neighbors to vote for their candidate in the successive elimination ballots.

I picture things a bit different than you.
Iowa Newt and Cain statistically tied. Perry a distant third, followed Paul. Bachman might even beat Romney.
N.H. - Romney wins minimally.
S.C. - Cain, Newt, Romney, Perry.
FL. - This is hardest to predict right now, but will also be the one that starts driving candidates out. My gut feeling is that Cain has an advantage over Gingrich here, but that might be wishful thinking on my part. This could be the spot Romney bails out again.
Normally there’s someone else in charge, but they are already splitting duties, one group defending Cain’s indefensible refusal to do a 1-hour interview and have it taped for C-Span, and another group defending Cain’s inexplicable reversal and request to do the 1-hour interview and have it taped for C-Span.
Things are a bit hectic, so we’ll probably be light on people coming here to attack the wife of a candidate. At least Perry’s wife believes in what he is doing, and will fight for the principles he espouses, and wants to be on the trail with him.
You might have a point about this being a good point for a new candidate, except for one detail: he has lost another 4.3 points in the RCP average in the last month. This means he is dropping further toward the bottom, rather than rising. With about 6 weeks left before voting begins, he would have to turn things around rapidly. For all the money he spent in his ads, he seemed to only get a temporary 2 point bump from them.
Three months into his campaign, his poll numbers are twice what Cain’s were 3 months into HIS campaign.
But he did fall a long way to get there.
As far as when candidates start bailing out..that's harder to tell..because all the debates enable the 2nd tier to hang around for a few more weeks each time, without needing much $$$.
S Carolina has picked the eventual winner since 1980. Eventually, they'll mess up, and get it wrong..but I have no doubt they'll get the top two, right..though not necessarily in the correct order.
S Carolina IS important..first primary in the south, and with an electorate that really reflectes the GOP base..and one more thing..both Haley and DeMin have pledged to stay neutral in the race until after the vote, ( or possible just before) and they will have an impact..especially if they agree on a candidate..
OTOH, there's still a chance that we come to Tampa without a candidate..an open convention...
If I want to hear the pathetic whinings of a deranged Combiner thug and apologist loser who threatens violence against those that don’t share his viewpoint, I’ll ask you. Have a nice day.
And next week, if Cain is below Perry, you’ll be telling Cain supporters that Cain should drop out and support Perry? I’m pretty sure you werent’ saying that when Perry was way ahead of Cain before. And I doubt you’ll say that about Cain and Gingrich, even though many Cain supporters had nothing but nice things to say about Gingrich when he was just a foil to make Cain look good at a two-man question-and-answer session.
Maybe he’s getting punished for the nasty dirty trick he pulled on Bachmann.
I think a “strike force” Organized against illegals, in any fashion, shape or form - including those in schools spending our tax dollars, would have been better than an Iowa Strike Force.
Shooting little innocent doves - in soft focus no less.
I’ve asked if there’s a photo that can be posted of Perry reading a book, but nobody has taken me up on the offer.
"Honey, I told you to fill my water bottle with Grey Goose. That's what First Ladies drink."
Send him “Touched”, by Jerry Sandusky, if you want to see him read a book.
The best thing about Cain that unlike the rest of the field, he’s not a career politician. Those career politicians are responsible for the dreadful mess we’re currently in.
Liz & I came up with several cookbooks for the Perrys. Mine was: The Anita Perry Cookbook: Vodka Is Not Just A Sauce.
Now, now. Making common-sense suggestions like that will give Wifey the vapors.
Win. ;-D
You’re in trouble now, lol. The fan girls are not going to like THAT implication.
Personally, I think he probably reads comic books.
You guys are bad!
