An IACX Energy helium plant at Otis, Kansas
Yeah, I just got this Rigzone story. Very fascinating.
I wonder if my Marcellus Shale or Utica Shale natural gas holds enough helium to make extraction viable?
Time will tell.
Thanks for posting. I had no idea where helium came from. Very common, of course, in TIG welding (Tungsten - Inert Gas) commonly known as Heliarc welding.
I love reading your posts from Rig Zone as I always learn something. I lived near the town in Kansas (Dexter) where the “gas that wouldn’t light” was first discovered in conjuntion with natural gas production.
*** the US helium supply is declining, which has caused alarm throughout the industry.***
But, but the enviros claimed we only had enough natural helium for 9 more years!
Oh, that was in 1978. Never mind.
And just to the west of that in NE New Mexico there is the Bravo Dome which has natural CO2! What if we release that CO2? Will Glo-Bull warming increase?
DOOMED we is! DOOMED I say!
How bout gas fields under perma frost(Alaska/Canada).. maybe the helium was saved in the gas.. and not vented..
Helium from decay of Uranium-238, Uranium-235, and Thorium-232......... on it....:o)
Here in Amarillo TX the Helium plant was a money maker till goobermint sold it.
Good read, always enjoy your posts Thackney.
(if ya have time) ..... Any news on the recent disparity between diesel prices and mogas ? Usually they were about 40 cents apart here.
Paying 3.99$ for diesel and 3.12 for gasoline over in Amarillo.
Stay safe , Merry Turkey Day !
