Without helium, MRI machines don't function, NASA rockets aren't launched and semiconductor manufacturing grinds to a halt. Helium is simply indispensible to these and various other critical applications, and its increasing scarcity has many people nervous.
Another reason for Barry to block the development of natural gas fields.

These are old gas fields. Any new drilling would be in-field drilling.
I think most are on vacuum now.
