Are Mormons "Weird"?
Mormon Defense League ^ | August 12, 2011 | Mormon Defense League

The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.

Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as “weird.” The Politico report did not specifically tie the “weird” charge to Romney’s Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.

Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: “To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating…As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority.” Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: “Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the ‘weirdness’ innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage.” Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: “The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry.” In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: “You’d like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.”

I’m getting two different pairs of Mormons a week. The Jehovahs’ Witnesses haven’t come around in a very long time since the last team they sent over was attacked by my cat. I suspect they took it as a sign from God that they should not come back.

A few years from now another Journolist will be uncovered. It will be discovered that journalists conspired to hold off on criticism of Romney while tearing down those Republican candidates who are likely to win.

The minute Romney does get the nomination out will come non-stop news stories on every weird belief and practice Mormons have had since their origin Polygamous ancestors of Romney will be exhumed. Every nutty comment made by any “prophet” of this church ever made at any time will be broadcast, and you can be sure that blacks and priesthood will be headline news until the day of the election. Three days before the election Mormons will be accused of baby sacrifice in their temples.

Bet on it!

Do you know a lot of Mormons whom you can “easily deceive”?

It started with one fella....

Either that, or else he really just made the whole thing up: like Scientology.

Galatians 3

Faith or Works of the Law
1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? 4 Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

That’s *my* point. They aren’t leaving me alone but instead seem determined to try to convert me.

I’ve tried “No, thank you.” That didn’t work.
I’ve tried “I am not interested, please do not come back.” That didn’t work.
I’ve tried “I belong to another religion and am not interested.” That didn’t work.
I’ve tried “Please go away and do not return.” That didn’t work.
I’ve tried “Leave. Don’t return.” That didn’t work.

I have also tried posting signs, contacting the local Mormon bishop and even having them removed by the police. They keep coming back, they won’t take no for an answer, and they are very annoying.

How else would you propose that I should name them? I merely wish to be left alone and am enquiring about an effective non-lethal method of getting them to do so.

I’ve noticed a tendency toward passive-aggressiveness.

We get that a lot...

Facts and figures? We can all play that game - fast and loose - but who has time? I could plow through ancient history and dig up all kinds of dirt about any religion - drag it out, out of context, and post it as my “fact” and my “figure” but who has time? Apparently you do so have at it.

I criticize Harry Reid who claims to be a Mormon but I call him a MINO (Mormon In Name Only); I can’t stand him!! I don’t really like Orrin Hatch, although he’s a Mormon, but I think he’s way too polite and nice.

WOW

So you are anti-Mormon ???

You must be...

You are against these Mormon men...

You might call Harry Reid a MINO (Mormon In Name Only) but the Mormons made him Man-of-the-Year...

so you are speaking against a favorite Mormon...

Oh Sandy you apostate you...

Someone offended you...

Don’t get me wrong, I think Mittens is a flip-flopping, fabricating, falsehood spewing, political animal who would sell us down the tubes for a smile from Nancy Pelosi or a pat on the head from Harry Reid, but I don’t think his religion has anything to do with his questionable veracity.

Perhaps you should look into his religion.

NIV Galatians 1:6-9
6. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
7. which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8. But even
if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!
9. As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Even ANGELs from HEAVEN???

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound.
When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air.
One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!

Like this fine looking fellow???

2 Corinthians 11:12-15
12. And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
13. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
14. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
15. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Does it involve Printing Presses?
