The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.
Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obamas 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as weird. The Politico report did not specifically tie the weird charge to Romneys Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.
Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating
As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority. Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the weirdness innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage. Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry. In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: Youd like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.

“Throughout history, majorities have been unfair to minorities and have misrepresented their beliefs and motives. We sincerely hope that any plan to do so now was inadvertent, and that such a strategy will not be used. Millions of individual Mormons deserve better than to have their religion caricatured for political gain.”
Ooops. Too late.
Why don’t you defend Mitt Romney on the REAL ISSUES?
Because you/he/RomneyBOTs have no defense for his
backstabbing, pandering, and lying.
Inquiring minds want to know:
Is lying, dog abuse, fascism, and backstabbing
a part of your religion?
If not, then why does not one Mormon criticize Milt Romney?
And their handlers very skilled. To a point.
Where does she say she is defending Romney? One can disagree with him on the issues without getting to the question of his faith. I would be comfortable with a Mormon President. I just don’t think Mitt Romney fits that bill.
Politico is just laying some early ground work for the inhalation of the LDS Church and Romney along with it. These early probes are just to see if they can easily isolate and poke the church into a response. All responses will be labeled crazy and extreme. Mitt will be painted as loyal to a cult.
Of course we know Barry is a middle of the road guy who has nothing to do with his Muslim Faith, Bill Ayers, Marxism, Fascism or Black Liberation Theology. Gosh Mormons are such weird people.
“Is lying, dog abuse, fascism, and backstabbing
a part of your religion?”
Thank you for making my point loud and clear. Have a great day.
To me Mormons are odd but not really an issue for me.
“Why dont you defend Mitt Romney on the REAL ISSUES?”
Not permitted on this site.
“Mitt will be painted as loyal to a cult.”
Nail on the head and the FReeper anti Mormons are right on board. It’s funny how Obama’s people and FReeper anti Mormons are in bed together. (Not really so funny.)
You’ve been here for a long, long time. Why do you feel the need to post your personal crusades in Front Page News? Why don’t you follow the rules of decorum that the rest of us do? If you are posting this as a religious argument then it belongs in the Religion Forum. if you are posting as a defense of Willard Romney, which is the purpose of the article, well then, bye.
As you can derive from this post, it is a driving force even now...
Mittens is not a conservative. He’s a full bore liberal. And trying an honest defense of his positions would expose him as an unprincipled political panderer. He makes other politicians look principled. That’s why practically no one wants him.
“Not permitted on this site.”
Then why didn’t post this to the Religion page?
Normally I could not care less what my fellow citizens choose to worship or not worship, but is there any way I can get The Church Of Jesus Christ of People Who Knock On My Door At Inconvenient Hours Trying To Sell Me Their Idea Of Jesus And Really Dont Take No For An Answer to stop bothering me? I’ve been getting two missionary teams a week on average for a while now.
Saundra Duffy: "Not permitted on this site."
That is absolutely not true. A typical lie, and a typical putdown
a great CONSERVATIVE site, by a typical RomneyBOT.
