Talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey is losing money, viewers, executives — and even her best friend, Gayle King, who bolted this week — in her battle to make OWN Network a relevant programming destination.
Winfrey intended to “enlighten” and “inspire” her loyal fan base when transitioning from network TV to cable, but all she’s done is alienate herself, posing as a philosopher rather than a journalist.

I think that cult-of-personality ventures (OWN, GBTV, etc.) are just doomed to fail. The brand is driven by a single personality, rather than a particular subject matter (CurrentTV, RightNetwork, etc.).
If the personality tarnishes their own personal brand, all the associated programming gets targeted.
Had Glenn Beck worked with other people and created a channel associated with a movement, philosophy, etc., rather than his ego, he’d do better.
I’m also not paying $100 per year or whatever to listen to a few hours of ANYONE, especially when I get what I need FREE on the radio.
OWN is doomed because she publicly and passionately tied herself to one of the worst presidents of all time.
GBTV is doomed because it’s too ego-driven and cost-prohibitive.

Part of Oprah’s demise started when the problems with her school in south Africa had major problems with sex abuse of some students [twice, IIRC].
That showed she had little or lost control and that the school seemed to be just an insincere PR effort.
Cant these libs figure out that everything BO touches goes to hell. Liberals are stupid.

I did make it a point, when I started seeing books in the stores with "Oprah's Book Club" stickers on them, to never buy one.

Even cable based news programs allows some content for free.
I don’t like listening to Beck or Hannity anymore because for one, Hannity is like a freaking parrot that just repeats the same crap over and over. Hannity and Beck’s radio shows is like one long infomercial for GBTV whatever Hannity’s Fox show is.
The One will bail her out.
My parents had friends like this. I remember their daughter was about my age (we lived in Atlanta where “Ebonics” was rampant) and they would get on to her so bad and INSISTED that the word for the number four had a “U” and an “R” in it.
I hope she doesnt restart that awful chat show of hers and come back to annoy us all.
I’ve read a few (ignored the book club sticker, just seemed like good books) and they were really good.
One was about a Moroccan family that was imprisoned for years in the desert because the father of the family tried a military coup. He was a general in the King’s army.
Another was a woman who did an ancestry on her family to find out who sold her great great grandmother (she found the deed for her purchase in the county records in Louisiana) and came to discover that the slave owner was black. Now THAT was interesting.
The greedy b*tch did it to herself. She was unrealisitic when it came time to negotiate with the affiliates to carry her show on her previous network and she thought she would make more with her own network.

The free market is a wonderful thing. Let’s just hope we don’t reach the point where there is only one government television channel feeding us propaganda all day long.
Do you have some sort of sophisticated time keeping device or would you just guess it was about 2 seconds. Anything longer than that I would not admit publicly......

This woman is one of those sarcastic comics and that’s okay if she keeps it in the comedy arena. Where she went wrong is to take it to a new level trying to make it real by trashing real people’s values. Who wants to be around people like that. Who knows if you will be the next target. The View are specialists at that.
People are really tired of having their beliefs and values trashed.
