Bachmann Blasts Gingrich on Abortion

Read the extensive press release below.

Newt Gingrich Has Failed to Meet a Consistently Pro-Life Standard

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has failed to uphold a consistently pro-life stance throughout his career in public life. Gingrich has positioned himself as open to watering down the Republican Party’s commitment to the inalienable right to life and failed as the leader of the U.S. House of Representatives to stem the flow of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood, the largest U.S. provider of abortions.

(snip)

Under Newt Gingrich’s tenure as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives 1995-1999, the federal government channeled $587,073,070 to Planned Parenthood components – more than half a billion dollars – and his Republican-dominated House never voted to bar taxpayer funding to this largest U.S. abortion provider.

Total federal funding for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and affiliates, International Planned Parenthood Federation and associations, and the Alan Guttmacher Institute during FY1995 compared with the following four fiscal years budgeted under Gingrich’s speakership: PPFA's annual federal funding went from $120 million in FY1995, the fiscal year budgeted before Gingrich came to power, to $125.8 million in FY1999, the last fiscal year budget Gingrich negotiated with President Clinton. IPPF and Guttmacher taxpayer funding decreased, but funding for PPFA, the largest domestic abortion provider, remained fairly constant.

Newt makes a living doing what he is paid to do, the man has no morals, and his god is money, with a sprinkle of young women.

Fair enough. I don’t think anyone would argue with that. (not sure what is wrong with the first one though...). And yet, his support has quadrupled or quintupled or more the last six weeks or so.

Why do you think?

This is what turns me off on Michele. She's like the old media, she'll snap at everyone but Mitt.

I like Michele Bachmann, but her attack on Newt Gingrich on this issue is a bit misleading.

Cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood would have meant an automatic veto by Bill Clinton, even assuming the Dems didn’t block the funding cut-off in the Senate, which they probably would have done. Look what happened when the current Congress tried to cut off Planned Parenthood funding. Are all the Republicans in the House therefore RINOs? No, of course not.

Overall, Newt compiled a solidly pro-life record in Congress. Just look at how pro-life and pro-abortion groups rated him:

1997-1998 National Right to Life Committee - 100%
1997 National Right to Life Committee - 100%
1996 National Right to Life Committee - 100%
1993-1996 Planned Parenthood - 0%
1997 NARAL Pro-Choice America - 0%

Who do you think you are - bringing logic and reality and perspective into this debate? Don’t you know - this is where the perfect folks come to live vicariously through the purity of their own irrelevances. It’s much more satisfying to lash out based on half truths than it is to admit that some of the folks we don’t like have actually done some good and reasonable things in their past.

And who the hell are you to spoil their fun with FACTS! /s

I agree, although Newt’s the smartest guy in the room, I believe his quest for wealth is his primary focus...not the health of our nation.

Both of your posts back to back were 100% spot on!!!

Thank you. I'm glad to see others are thinking the same way. No matter who we elect, he or she will either need to be kept in line or need our support to get his or her ideas enacted. Without enough Tea Partiers in Congress, it won't rally matter who we elect. Nothing will through a RAT controlled Senate.

I’d be happy if they just stop tax-payer funding of all abortions and stop all late term abortions. That would be progress.

I like Newt’s idea of congress defining “personhood” which would take care of all the legislation, like Roe v Wade.

REAGAN’S “ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT”: ‘THOU SHALT NOT SPEAK ILL OF OTHER REPUBLICANS

What a crock. Like Reagan never criticized Ford, or H.W. Bush, during their campaigns?

Lol...that is hardly 'Newt's idea'. He is quite new to this fight.

Yes, I know what she meant - but I will say this - I get the creepy crawly’s when anyone who claims to be a conservative starts complaining too much about what other folks do to earn a living. There is an out of control government based consultant and lawyer economy in Washington no doubt - but not everyone who has been in it is the cause of it. We need to grow up and understand that. I also get creepy crawlys when folks act like we’re choosing a pastor and not a President.

And besides, conceding the point for sake of argument, I would still like my question answered...

Good point. For a smart guy, Newt has learned a lot of lessons the hard way.

I am FOR Bachmann but she needs not to attack.... BUT INSPIRE..

She “should” lay out a better course to inspire toward a graduated “killing” of the federal “MONSTER”..
She started the “monster hunt” to kill the dragon...
Gingrich, Perry, AND Cain just got on the bandwagon...

These “jackwagons” are just threateners.. SHE is the actual “Grizzly Momma”..
She “should” ATTACK the Federal Beast not the Monte Python Knights in their armour..

If she were “smart” she would use the Monte Python Knights(Newt, Rick and Hermie) as cannon fodder..

Because she is “really” the ONLY conservative in the bunch..
Cain worked for the federal reserve.. an elite position.. for the elite..
And Newt and Rick have proven to get along quite well with democrats..

Throwing those big words around, try using the real numbers, in some polls he has had a 8 point increase, when you are at the bottom a slight increase seem like a big deal. If you own one car and you buy a second, you have increased your car, ownership by how many percent. The joke Newt, has had an 6 to 8 point increase in his polling, that means, over 70% of the voters are for someone else are nobody. So where is the rock shaking, ask perry how fast you can go up and down.

Bachmann is in the death throes of defeat, wildly lashing out at her fellow GOP candidates on her way down.

If she were truly smart, she'd drop out with grace.....and support her favorite primary candidates.....and maybe she'll get an appointment in a future GOP presidency as Ambassador to Upper Snarkovia, or sumpin'.

I think the Newt supporters might want to listen to their own candidate rather then going into peronal attack mode the second anything negative is said about Newt

"In the next three weeks, I predict to you we will have all sorts of questions about me. And it's fine. You can not ask the people of the United States to loan you the most powerful governmental job in the world, particularly in a campaign that's promising very dramatic change, and not have them vet you carefully and thoroughly," Gingrich said.

I didn’t realize quadruple or quintuple were such big words. Well.

Anyway, Newt has gone from maybe 3-5 % to 20-30% - depending on the poll - in the past six weeks or so. So at a minimum, his support has grown by 4 to 1 in that time frame. And he is number 1 or number 2 in most polls as opposed to being number 5 or 6 or 7 which is where he was.

In my mind, he has gone from “dead to me” to being in my top 3. Apparently I am not alone.

So I ask again, why do you suppose that is?
