The Justice Department is launching an inquiry into the decision of a Los Angeles suburb to deny a local mosque’s planned expansion.
Federal officials are looking into whether or not Lomita, California city council members violated the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act when they rejected the construction plans almost two years ago, according to the Daily Breeze, a local newspaper.
City Attorney Christ Hogin told the newspaper that the investigation started in July.
The city council denied that religion played a role in their decision, which they said was influenced by concerns over traffic and parking.

Easy pickins for CAIR and their sycophants in the WH, and DOJ. Lomita is a bedroom city about a mile and a half square with everything pretty much jobbed out to Los Angeles relative to law enforcement, medical, etc.
Lomita is a place you go through to get where you actually want to go.

This law was passed with good intentions back in the '90s.
It was meant to protect religious groups from being "zoned out." Iirc it was formulated to address genuine instances of discrimination against groups (mainly Evangelical Christians) in some secularized, mostly wealthy areas.
In any case, the law has been abused by groups with an agenda, e.g. the Muslim Brotherhood, whose documented goal is to establish mosques everywhere in America (especially in rural and suburban areas where their location may be very ill-suited).
Unfortunately RLUIPA allows not only towns to be sued for "discrimination," but also individual planning board members. It is horribly expensive to be sued in Federal Court, so boards are terrified to say "no" to a religious institution.
Doubly frightening is the prospect of turning down a mosque's application, for reasons I don't think I need to spell out.
This makes it almost impossible for a local zoning board to turn down a mosque-building project, even where traffic, parking and environmental concerns are completely valid.
Agree This Halfrican is a MUSLIM! but he would never pass up a vote.He needs to stay in office for his brothers.
Just substitute ¨church¨ for mosque then reflect on how likely this would be. Sharia well advanced.
Understood. I’m just trying to say this Muslim would even go against his traditional lazy base to enact something significant his Muslim Imams demand, that’s all.
