Republican Congressman Connie Mack changed his mind late last month about challenging longtime Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in 2012, and now he finds himself with a modest edge over the incumbent in the first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Floridas U.S. Senate race.
The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Mack with 43% to Nelsons 39%.

As always, if anyone wishes to be removed from my ping list, please let me know through FreepMail.
The candidates for US Senate in the Republican Primary need to be vetted closely by many in Florida. I for one am a supporter of Mike McCalister to face Bill Nelson in 2012.
I would suggest to all who see this, to check into Mike McCalister. Not only do I agree with Mike on every issue, he is not a politician, one who will honor our Constitution and a Veteran, which is a plus with me. Mike is certainly NOT a RINO.
Excellent news. Nelson has a big problem. The Democrat base really hate him and Florida has shifted politically. If the election of Marco Rubio and Rick Scott didn’t send that message then nothing will. I don’t believe Obama has a chance in hell of doing well in Florida and provided we don’t get a nominee that takes focus off Obama or blurs the distinction guys like Nelson are done for. People think 2010 brought out conservatives what do they really think will happen when people have a real chance to register their opposition directly against Obama? It is going to be bad. Obama will not have young people looking to go to the polls to vote for him. The polls show a huge drop off in enthusiasm and all that ‘Hope and Change’ power is spent like yesterday’s news.
All that is left for Nelson is the reading of his political eulogy.
Why McCalister instead of Hasner?
I very much like McCalister! He’s a retired Colonel, and he’s an all around good conservative from what I’ve seen.
Nelson needs to go, period!
You're just saying that because you're so used to Nancy Pelosi not being able to move hers.
Just one problem with that. I voted for McAlister, but like 95% of those, it was a protest vote of sorts. I didn't want McCollum, and I wasn't happy with the baggage that Scott had. (BTW..Scott's been superb, for the most part...he's turning the state around..
I went to see Hasner early this year..at a small "meet and greet"..he's a real conservative, but has totally failed to gain any traction..can't figure out why. I think that possibly the Tea Party crowd expected another Rubio....and those are tough shoes to fill..
1. Scott cold appoint him to the Senate, to fill out the term.
2. West would be a superb SecDef
Keep the faith!!
Has Nelson formally announced that he is running?
Nelson will be just a bad dream in 2012 unless they manage to steal the election via fraud. There in NO WAY he gets elected again.
Indeed he is.
Oh hell yea. I live for the day that b*tch is kicked out but I won’t hold my breath on that one because there isn’t a chance in hell that county is going to elect a Republican. That SE coast is the septic tank of FL, full of snowbirds that screwed up NJ and NY then moved down to the SE coast.... tried to steal the election for Gore...thought they steal it for Alex Sink ... until Rick Scott and GOP lawyers showed up before they had a chance to do it. Debbie is a compete and utter nut case.
LOL!!! So he drives you nuts too? Not all of us Southerners talk like we have to think about each word for 10 seconds. He is so annoying.
.Jewish Republican who could get votes in Palm Beach county.

I’m not so sure about that. Most are from NY and NJ and they will vote Dem no matter who is running because most of them are so far left on social issues.
Seriously one of the most hideous women I’ve ever seen, inside and out. She approaches the Helen Thomas level of ugly.
Sounds like Obamaâs blatant antisemitic Islamophilia is waking up the large retired Jewish community and is bringing down all his Democrats.
Colonel Mike McCalister Ping!
Neither the USA nor Florida need Connie Mack in the Senate.
Let us all keep in mind that he is married to Mary Bono, the late Sonny Bono’s widow and is a RINO.
We can expect that a Senator Mack would likewise position himself to support RINO issues and vote “RINO.”

COLONEL MIKE IS NOT A RINO!
I supported McCollum over Crist for governor, but this last go around, I was NOT impressed with McCollum and his wishy-washy Republicanism. I have to agree with you wholeheartedly that Scott’s been amazing so far. Any governor who has both the St. Pete Times AND the Tampa Trib in collective daily editorial fits must be doing something right.
Hasner’s good people, but he’s like most true conservatives: low key, doing the people’s work. Mike Haridopolous is an up-and-comer in the party, but he’s got a long way to go as well.
I’m praying for McAlister. He’s solidly conservative, but then again I’m also all for the repeal of the 17th amendment so the crybaby liberals down in West Palm can’t screw up the election process.
We will wind up with two of the greatest Senators this state has ever seen; Marco and Connie, the best.
I say, “Hooray for Connie Mack!” Nelson has voted consistently in lockstep with Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi against the wishes of his constituents. Cases in point were his votes on the porkulous and Obamacare legislation.
Every time I have contacted Nelson about any legislation coming up for a vote, if he responded at all, it was a horse $h1t answer straight from the DNC.
Nelson’s time is up.
