Republican Congressman Connie Mack changed his mind late last month about challenging longtime Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in 2012, and now he finds himself with a modest edge over the incumbent in the first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Floridas U.S. Senate race.
The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Mack with 43% to Nelsons 39%.

This would be a great “get.” Isn`t Nelson one of those sainted types seen as unbeatable?
I don’t like Mack—in fact, I didn’t like him even before he married Mary Bono and said that the AZ law imposed Gestapo tactics. But he appears likely to win the Senate nomination due to money, name ID and prominent endorsements, and if he wins the nomination I will certainly support him over the liberal Bill Nelson.
I wish that Allen West would run for the Senate; his issue positions are actually better suited for a statewide run than in his Gold Coast swing district, and he could raise enough money to beat Mack and then send Nelson packing. As for West’s FL-22, I’m sure that Adam Hasner could hold it (the fact that he’s Jewish would be a big plus in that district).
Sounds like a real Michael Moore supporter to me:
“Michael Moore is opposed to more freedom and just wants to see America hurt. He and I couldnt be more different; although I will always defend his right to be wrong!”

Adam Hasner was my pick for Senate...he is a real conservative...Jewish Republican who could get votes in Palm Beach county.
But of course now Mack is in the game, and he will probably be the nominee. Mack is a bit of a RINO, but not a Charlie Crist type RINO.
I'll take the field. I think Craig Miller will get it.
Mack has the name ID from his old man but it's a long, long road to the late Florida primary.
Looking at his conservative.org ratings, Mack has a lifetime rating (six years) of 93.33. I guess he isn’t necessarily a RINO...let me look at his wife’s rating...
over 13 years, BONO MACK has a lifetime rating of 73.74...definite RINO material.
Late primary? I thought it was January 31.
Which is why Cornelius Harvey McGillicuddy IV made a wise choice in lopping off a few syllables.
Umm, you are aware that the picture in post #11 is of Democrat Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), not Connie Mack, right? It is Nelson who supported Michael Moore and Farenheit 911.
Actually, his great-grandfather, Baseball Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack (born Cornelius Harvey McGillicuddy), was the first to shorten his name, although perhaps a baseball scribe having to fit his name into a boxscore during Mack’s catching days was the first to shorten it for him.
But that’s an interesting point about political dynasties with four-letter (and, may I add, monosyllabic) surnames. I guess we’re lucky that Gary Hartpence, who changed his last name to Hart and became a U.S. Senator and presidential candidate, had his career derailed before a second generation of Harts could enter politics.
thank you and done
I mean polling only 39% and you are the sitting senator, thats Blanche Lincoln territory and she had her butt handed to her.
Thank you for the info.
You mean like Lloyd Millard Bentsen, Jr., of TX, and Robert C. Byrd of WV.
