Herman Cain thumbs nose at New Hampshire Union Leader
Politico ^ | November 17, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 11/17/2011 8:18:32 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

POLITICO's Reid Epstein, on the ground in Manchester, N.H., reports:

Herman Cain's campaign stuck a finger in the eye of the most powerful conservative voice in New Hampshire on Thursday, blowing off a scheduled interview with the Union Leader newspaper. Continue Reading

Before Cain's no-show, the campaign had requested the 10 a.m. meeting, scheduled for 60 minutes, be shortened to 20 minutes. Cain also told the Union Leader it would not allow C-SPAN cameras to record the sit-down, as it had the paper's meetings with Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum.

The Associated Press reported Cain's meeting with the paper was canceled before Union Leader editorial page editor Drew Cline was aware that the former pizza executive was not coming.

Messing with the Union Leader could have serious consequences for Cain in New Hampshire. The paper's endorsement is the state's biggest prize for Republicans and is seen as a conservative stamp of approval elsewhere in the country.

While it isn’t what it used to be, Bill Loeb’s Manchester Union-Leader was crucial for Reagan, especially in 1980. It was also thought to be responsible for Ed Muskie dropping out in ‘72.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that this paper would endorse Romney in the NH primary.

When they say conservative paper you have to consider that they are in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire = East Vermont OR North Assachusetts.

I'm sorry...looks like that damn 'M' key malfunctioned again. My bad.

Yes, it is dumb.

I will not campaign for him there now.

UnionLeader hates MITT.

UnionLeader will endorse NEWT and he will make a big run at MITT now. The anti-Mitt coalition now has its candidate. It remains to be seen how close Newt can make it.

people here like to talk about things they don’t know anything about.

UnionLeader hates Mitt. And so do half of GOPers and most unaffiliated in NH. Mitt has nowhere to go but down in NH.

ANYONE that thinks this paper is going to endorse anyone other than Willard Milt Romnuts needs to seek professional help.

If Mr. Romney loses in Iowa, NH, and SC, he won't have much of a campaign left, except for his large Democrat primary base and the Zucotti Press.
Give them Hell, Herman!!!

I was a Cain supporter many moons ago when he was in single digits in the polls. But, all these rookie mistakes by him, and his dumba**s campaign staff, is really starting to get on my friggin’ nerves.

McQuaid gonna endorse Newt ... It is certain.

’ In New Hampshire, Union Leader Publisher Joseph McQuaid editorialized on Sept. 16th, “The Republican Party and its contenders may want to look to former Speaker Gingrich for the best strategy on Social Security questions and perhaps on many others.” ‘

NEWT TO BE IN NH ON MONDAY 11-21. no details.

Cain had just one public event Thursday in the state, an afternoon rally. He spent much of the morning conducting interviews with local TV stations at a diner.

Yea but you don’t know that he had no reason. You can only know that Politico gave no reason and Politico has an obvious aax to grind.

There is no point denying denials as that just intracts things.

Cain is going, I hope, to focus on what he IS doing rather than answer to Politico or UL about what he should have done...

“people here like to talk about things they don’t know anything about.

I don’t have to live up there to see that the open primary and same day registration will result in droves of union thugs swarming the polls on primary day to deliver NH to Mittens. Tell me what I just typed that I don’t know about? Enlighten me Obi Wan Kenobi. Prove me wrong.

If you are so certain that Mitt has no chance to win NH, put your money where your mouth is.

That Milwaukee newspaper has a major beef with Cain’s campaign manager, Mark Block. Thus, Cain got unfavorable treatment from them.

we do have clarification now that Cain will not be endorsed by UL. The details don’t matter much, do they?

So ronPaul may get 15%, Huntsman trying to get over 10% (he is at 7% now) ... and whomever UL endorses will move to 2nd place to challenge MITT. Cain is now finished in NH. His only hope there was to be the UL candidate and that now will be Newt.

I am glad that I decided not to drive to Manchester today for the Cain rally.

"This newspaper (UL) is already in the bag for Romney ..."

That is your quote. Check back with me after they endorse Newt. Cain has no chance with them now.

"If you are so certain that Mitt has no chance to win NH, put your money where your mouth is."

Don't misquote me. I am well aware many conservatives have surrendered to Mitt about NH.

Keep in mind that there is no Democrat primary to speak of in NH this time around; since Zero is unopposed (at this time). In that scenario, they will have nothing better to do than to cross over to the GOP primary to foul the waters as best they can.

Cain just finished speaking in Nashua...wonder if there were any butt-hurt UL crybabies in attendance?

The deadline for Democrats to vote in the GOP primary passed one month ago.
http://www.dailypaul.com/181155/new-hampshire-party-change-deadline-10-14

Only GOP and Unaffilateds are eligible. Even the ronPaul website has it right.

“The deadline for New Hampshire Democrats to register Undeclared or Republican is Friday, October 14.

Only Undeclared and registered Republicans are eligible to vote in New Hampshire’s Republican primary.”

...so what’s your point? I didn’t say anything about ‘deadlines’. The ‘Dems’ are familiar with the deadlines, and are already in the woodpile as ‘Independents’ or ‘Unaffilated’; so to speak. I really don’t have any skin in the game, so we’ll just see what happens...I haven’t made up my mind between Palin and Cain.
