A day after Canadian oil company TransCanada agreed to reroute its proposed Keystone oil pipeline around Nebraska' ecologically sensitive Ogallala Aquifer, the State Department refused to budge on a new environmental review of the project that is not slated for completion until 2013 -- after the presidential election.
The State Department on Tuesday denied that the delay is designed to appease environmentalists, a core constituency of the Obama administration.
"I can only say, as we've said repeatedly on the record, that the White House had no bearing on the decision-making process," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said Tuesday. "The State Department has the lead on this issue, and we're going about it in a very transparent and apolitical way."
But representatives of the oil industry beg to differ.
"Unfortunately, this was clearly a political decision on the part of the president. He sacrificed 20,000 new American jobs to save one and that was his own job," said Jack Gerrard of the American Petroleum Institute. "We believe the president should quickly reconsider that the decision to delay the Keystone XL pipeline determination and to get focused on jobs and energy production."
The delay has sparked a firestorm of political broadsides. At a time when the president has been effectively accusing congressional Republicans of blocking his energy and job creation agenda, they used the Keystone delay to fire back during a Capitol Hill Press conference Tuesday.
"Here we have a president going off to Australia and playing golf in Hawaii. The guy sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is destroying this country," said Rep. Allen West, R-Fla.

You may be right on Canada not waiting, we’ll see soon.
The NE Gov was shouting out loud and clear against the pipeline but the State Dept basically ignored him and led everyone to believe they were going to approve it.
Then along comes the enviros and threaten Obama with their votes and everything changes all of a sudden. I may not have that right but that’s the way I saw it.
Podesta from Center for American Progress recently announce he will be advising the State Department.
This administration has done everything it can to restrict oil supplies and drive prices up.
Since 1937, the State Dept is has always been a pit of communist vipers.
Warren and Obama are both skunks.

Warren Buffets Keystone Bonanza
Whether Buffett surmised this would happen; he had some "unoficial" (yeah right!) heads up; or is merely a shrewd businessman, we wil probably never know.
That said, moving the oil by railroad is a great idea and would bypass (and no doubt give them ajita) the Far Left Moonbats at Foggy Bottom and drive the Green Weenie Zombies, batty.
Even at "several thousad dollars" per tank car (which hold between 15,800 US gallons to 33,600 US gallons (or between approx 400 and 800 barrels respectively) that would still only add (if oil is $100 a barrel) between an additional $4 to $8 per barrel or .09 to .18 cents a gallon, much more than if moved by pipeline but not cost prohibitive.
Best friend OPEC ever had.
I think you saw it pretty clearly. I think a thread about two months ago was saying it was going to be approved. Just goes to show.
Re State Dept. spokesman (i.e. liar) Mark Toner.
My Thanksgiving wish is that we run out of Toner, very quickly.
Lying sack of shit, just like his uberboss, Hillary.
And that little shit Podesta is going to advise the State Dept? I’d rather have a communist agent do that than let him. At least I’d know that an open enemy of America was doing it rather than an underground leftist termite.
Pure and simple political BS!
The problem we have is who is going to start the investigation? All these people do is get elected, then immediately start a campaign to get re-elected. We need to go to something like the Romans did. Get elected to the Senate for only one year and then have to wait for five years to run again. Our politicians are hoping to stay in office for life. This means they will do nothing, as you suggested, if it means they may not get elected.
