WASHINGTON — Newt Gingrich is the strongest Republican candidate when matched head to head against Democratic President Barack Obama, according to a McClatchy-Marist Poll...

The former speaker of the House of Representatives is neck and neck with the incumbent president, back just 2 percentage points among registered voters. Obama leads 47 percent to 45 percent...

Gov. Mitt Romney is next closest, trailing Obama by 4 percentage points. In that matchup, Obama leads 48 percent to 44 percent...

The poll, coming as Gingrich has surged within the Republican field, could boost Gingrich's argument that he would be the party's best voice to debate Obama in the general election...

If the GOP nominates Newt, the Dems will put Hillary in the VP slot.

Perhaps sitting down with Princess Nancy wasn't a bad idea.

They are both smiling.

Democrats might be too stupid to understand that he is a Republican.

Mitt seems more like an Obama.

Newt seems more like a Mitt.

I always hated algebra theories.

It's coming down to this: I am 90% sure Newt won't try to screw the voters. If Newt screws up it won't be on purpose. On the other hand, I'm 90% SURE Romney WILL screw us!

I'm genuinely curious about something, and not being snarky or trying to pick nits. Are you old enough to remember Newt's time in office?

Newt is our best chance to remove Obama. Please consider contributing to Newt as he has less money than the others - much less than Perry.

I can see why. Fail. None of these candidates are anywhere close to Obama or even each other. They are all quite different (as it should be). :-)

But seriously ... I am not sure how Newt would prevail given his marital dramas. One bad story is worth a thousand great words. And Newt would have trouble getting women to vote for him (and many men)

Newt might be the new Nixon.

Coming back from political obscurity.

Election Year 2012 is alot similar to Election Year 1968.

Newt might appoint Ron Paul to be Secretary of Commerce, then Energy, then Education, then Homeland Security.

I can imagine Paul doing the needed work in short order.

Newt's Brain is a national treasure.

I am! Are you?

Newt was a fabulous speaker of the House and LEADER of conservative revolution # 1!

His accomplishments are legendary.

Nice Poll. But the ultimate DC Hack will have to pass through the gates of the GOP Primary’s. We shall see won’t we?

By all means give to Newt. Christmas is coming up and he wants to buy more diamonds and take another cruise.

Been here for 12 Presidents! Newt screwed up some things but he’s older and wiser. None of the 70+ “ethic complaint” stuck, NONE! (It did take 3 years to clear one on the complaints.)

So now that Perry has imploded, we’re being treated to the Newt attempt to roll conservative voters. Yo Newt—it’s been tried already. Didn’t work for Perry will not work for you.

The picture of you smiling on the love seat with Pilosi is worth a million words. You know the one I , the one you say is “inexplicable”.

Well, you’re right about that at least.

My money is on Cain. Sent him $20 today. Sent him $25 last week. Will keep sending him money every time the RINOs (including Newt) and the demrats come up with a new “star witness” to something(s) that never happened.
