Newt will never, ever be GOP nominee
Washington Post ^ | 11/15/2011 | Jonathan Bernstein

Yes, Newt Gingrich has spiked in the polls. No, he’s not going to be the nominee. I’ve been trying to duck this one because it feels like laying out the obvious, but, briefly, three reasons:

1. The baggage he’s always had — the marital difficulties, the ethics troubles, a whole bunch of deviations from conservative orthodoxy over the years (such as that ad he shot with Nancy Pelosi: “Our country must take action to address climate change”) — just isn’t going to go away. Republican voters don’t have those things in mind at the moment, but no candidate is more vulnerable to attack ads than the former Speaker.

2. Message discipline, lack thereof. It’s impossible to imagine Newt not saying something that hurts him if there’s a microphone in front of his face for a three-week stretch, which is what wouldgoing to happen if the press decides he actually has a chance at winning this thing. We have a couple decades of evidence, including earlier this year, showing that he’s just not able to do it. For whatever it’s worth, I’d add that as I read the polling over the years, Newt’s basic act is unlikely to wear well with voters after extended exposure. People just don’t like the guy.

3. Both of those might be overcome, but this one won’t: it’s highly unlikely that anyone who worked with Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker would want him anywhere near the White House. As detailed in many places, but perhaps most memorably by David Maraniss and Michael Weisskopf in their

OK, I can live with Gingrich/Palin as well. Herman can be Treasury Sec’y ... with a big, big broom. Or, Gingrich/Cain and Sarah as fed corruption clean-up czar, with an even bigger broom, mop, disinfectant, fumigation equipment, hazmat teams, etc. ... OK, you get the picture.

If not Newt, who?

None of the above.

Now ... do you want Romney? Because that is what you will get if you push to destroy Newt.

I see...we're all supposed to put our blinders on and conveniently forget about all of Newt's previous backstabbing of Conservatives, much of it as late as May and June of THIS year, just to save the country. Right?

Whatever.

Stop being a baby and throwing a tantrum.

Hmmmm...so refreshing short memories and highlighting blatant RINOism is now considered "being a baby and throwing a tantrum?"

And I thought that FR was a CONSERVATIVE forum rather than a Republican forum. Silly me.

We will have to take less than perfect ...

That kind of defeatist thinking is how we always get stuck with entrenched RINOs/CINOs.

OK, why don’t you supply us with an example of triumphant thinking at this late date.

pssst> As governor of California, Ronald Reagan actually LEGALIZED abortion, then went on to become the benchmark for conservative political philosophy, including the Right to Life.

Don’t tell anyone.

Reject RINOs/CINOs, burn down the corrupt GOP-E, and then rebuild it from the ground up by supporting TEA Party candidates at all levels of government.

It's the only way.

I have a hunch that the flack Callista Gingrich has been taking in the mainstream media (and on this website) might, just might, have a little something to do with the fact that she is a devout and outspoken Roman Catholic. I could be wrong.

****

And with that answer, you discount your "cred" as a conservative. The R's WILL nominate someone ... none of the above is not a choice. I did not limit you to anyone ... I wanted to know who COULD win, if not Newt or Romney? None of the above says you are either an anarchist, or a cry baby (if I cant win I am gonna take all my toys and go HOME and vote NONE OF THE ABOVE).

*****

I see...we're all supposed to put our blinders on and conveniently forget about all of Newt's previous backstabbing of Conservatives, much of it as late as May and June of THIS year, just to save the country. Right?

No, you are supposed to advance the cause. My question is legitimate ... if not Newt ... who? Don't justify your answer with how horrible Newt is ... tell me who is more conservative and going to win. Its a simple question.

The harder one is ... why do you think that. I could argue that Cain could very well be the least conservative of the bunch, because of the 3rd 9 ... but unfortunately, none of us have any record to refer to ... which is the other reason he is falling.

He got a day in the sun because Perry was such an Epic Fail, and at first 999 sounded good, but it is an unprecedented expansion of governments ability to tax, and his line about how Congress will not raise it past 9% is proof positive of his naivety. As a conservative ... without going all 2-year old on a candidate you don't like, ... who is the most conservative, and what makes you think so.

President-elect Gingrich would give Speaker Boehner a set a conservative balls as a Christmas 2012 gift.

Considering using this as my new tagline...

Herman can be Treasury Sec’y

Herman Cain would make an excellent Commerce Secretary. He is not qualified to be Treasury Secretary, no matter how great a guy he is.

“Wrong, newt just happen to get there when Rush and talk radio arrived. “

Newt developed the plan and worked it with the candidates. Talk radio propounded it as well.

But Newt was the architect and fought Clinton tooth and nail as speaker—to the point of a government shutdown.

I am not blind to Newt’s faults nor to his virtues.

He was an outstanding Speaker.

He was foolish in his marital life, his interview with Pelosi, and his former support of cap and trade and global warming.

I found that net even Ronald Reagan was always Conservative enough for me. However, God used him as a deliverer of our nation.

May God Grant us many such men—including the presiden—in 2012!

You don't get it do you? We've already lost for 2012, there is no real TEA Party candidate in the field who has any chance of winning, other than potentially Cain (and he is suspect at this point). It doesn't matter who "wins" this time around---Conservatives have already lost since Newt, Romney, and Obama are all essentially the same.

A very wise man on this board has repeatedly said that "Rebellion is brewing!" Are you with that statement or against it? TEA Party or not? There is no middle ground in this political war.
