This, from Bloomberg News, is the kind of scrutiny that you draw when you start getting taken seriously as a presidential candidate:
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said during a Nov. 9 debate that he earned a $300,000 fee to advise Freddie Mac as a historian who warned that the mortgage companys business model was insane.
Former Freddie Mac officials familiar with the consulting work Gingrich was hired to perform for the company in 2006 tell a different story. They say the former House speaker was asked to build bridges to Capitol Hill Republicans and develop an argument on behalf of the companys public-private structure that would resonate with conservatives seeking to dismantle it.
If Gingrich concluded that the companys business model was at risk and that the housing market was a bubble, as he said during the debate, he didnt share those concerns with Richard Syron, Freddie Macs chief executive officer ...

Your are correct! They have not gone after Willard or “Alinskied” him.
If you want to understand the O template for 2012 look at Harry Reid's 2010 campaign. The tactics Reid's camp used was to feed the media smears to knock out the strongest challengers during the primary They picked the one they thought weakest alone to win the Primary. Then once the weakest GOP candidate wins, they turn their media guns on them
The Dems are telling us who they think our weakest link is. We should be listening
Yes and they’re are paid bloggers that have no life trying to keep it all mixed up and divide and conquer.
HEY OBAMA AND MSM
PRESIDENT BACHMANN
PRESIDENT CAIN
PRESIDENT PERRY
“When everybody will find out what Mormons truly believe.”
I don’t think that will be such a big deal. Romney is such a target-rich environment for his grossly inconsistent positions over the years that I don’t think the old media has to even get to the Mormon stuff in a big way.
At least you have to hand it to Zero for consistency. He has been pretty consistently a radical progressive for his whole career.
When they were smearing Cain you were more then willing to spam the board pimping the smear.
Spare us the hyper hypocrrise.
Perry is writing political checks here he cannot cash.
I think Romney could get the independent vote, but the Mormon stuff will drive them away.
Uh, how exactly does Rick propose to cut Congressional salaries...with an Executive Order? We actually have rules about that there kinda good stuff in something called "The Constitution". Please email the Wikipedia entry on it to Austin.
He is an "easy target" because he is a liar and a hypocrite. I thought Romney was bad (and he is), but Ginrich's progressive record makes him look like Sarah Palin. If Newt were a newcomer for a House seat and such a hot debater with no record, I would be swept up in it too. But he has a ATROCIOUS record, and I cannot and will not pull the wool over my OWN eyes to support him.
Defend Newt’s lobbying for Fannie/Freddie....waiting.waiting...waiting...
Your point is correct. Of course the media was looking for any excuse to begin the attack. And Perry was just dumb enough to impale himself.
Please give Ronald Wilson Reagan respect for giving the GOP a blueprint on beating someone like Obama.
Please observe his Obeying the 11th commandment
Or you can be pure under another 4 years of Obama. I hated I voted for McCain but I did because of Sarah Palin who saved the Republican party.
Not my point. He ran for mayor of Chicago. Politico didn't mention it.
Since Newt was paid 300k there is sure to be a work product that he produced. Let’s see the work product and then we can judge for ourselves what kind of a job Newt did for FF. As is this is just a smear.
"If Gingrich concluded that the companys business model was at risk and that the housing market was a bubble, as he said during the debate, he didnt share those concerns with Richard Syron, Freddie Macs chief executive officer ..."
If Gingrich lobbied on behalf of Freddie Mac while he was unregistered as a lobbyist he committed a crime. Note how carefully the leftists from Freddie Mac characterized Gingrich's contractual commitments in this leak, they say he was asked to "build bridges" to Capitol Hill Republicans. If he lobbied he should be prosecuted. But if he is not prosecuted, there is no there, there.
Obama and Atty. Gen. Eric Holder control the federal prosecutors, let them bring it on.
Gingrich said that last night on Hannity that his contract with clients explicitly prohibits lobbying. I doubt very much if Gingrich violated both his contract and the law.
Since Freddie Mac is dominated by Democrats in league with Obama, we can expect a whole series of leaks in violation of a confidentiality clause which Gingrich says is in the contract. Do not be surprised to see documents leaked. But if no document is leaked one can pretty well assume that they are to Gingrich's advantage. Surely, some writings exist.
You are being to kind to Newt, Sarah has a much better record as a party reformer then Newt. Newt is good but Sarah is better.
Frankly, I think this is much a do about nothing. As I recall this dates back to 2006. Both Vin Weber & Frank Luntz were hired as consultants as well. Big deal.
As others have said, like Perry & Cain, Newt knew these things would be coming up. Unlike his counter parts however, Newt will be ready.
