Herman Cain is theoretically a great candidate for president. He's a smart, black, successful, conservative "outsider." But as the reality sets in, it's clear that Mr. Cain is barely more ready for the office he seeks than Sarah Palin (or Barack Obama) was four years ago. Cain's performance in a long interview on Monday crystallized this view which has been forming in the minds of many GOP voters in recent weeks.
Mr. Cain's responses in Saturday's Republican debate in South Carolina -- which focused on foreign policy -- were a bunch of platitudes about getting good advice before making a decision. Frequently, his answers on topics that he doesn't really know much about focus on a few points of process, on getting quality advice, on not needing to know everything in advance, and so on.
But this is the real world and these are dangerous times. While the 2012 election will primarily be about jobs and the economy, events across the Arab world and escalating tensions between Iran and Israel -- not least because of the IAEA's most recent report about advances in Iran's nuclear weapon program -- make foreign policy and national security expertise critically important in our next president.
If there is anything America has been reminded of by Barack Obama, it's that the presidency is no place for on-the-job training -- and it's even less so when potential nuclear conflict is involved. Herman Cain gave an interview to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on Monday in which his answers on questions about Libya -- and his further discussion with the newspaper's editors on broader foreign policy issues -- sounded like a student trying hard to remember the answers for a test he's been cramming for.

I have never seen a videotaped session with local reporter like this. Typically candidates sit down with print reporters for an hour or two, shoot the breeze and then give their official positions on matters, which are then reported. What is this new gotcha videotaping of these sessions? Cain was not preparing for a debate. Michelle Malkin and many on FR are judging Cain far too harshly over this nonsense. I would love to see videos of Obama in 2007 in such sessions, where his handlers probably whispered stuff repeatedly in his ear (not that any such video would ever have been released). Once again the media is trying to tear a good Republican down, and we are helping them. Mitt Romney is very happy about it.

I am far more knowledgeable about Iran than is Mr Cain. Many Freepers are, as well, so that is not an effort at self-praise.
I am extremely leery of Mr Cain’s commitment to life.
I am wary of his desire to give the feds a new revenue stream.
I am not satisfied at all by his selection of close advisors who have made erratic and destructive decisions in the last few weeks. Therefore, I’m less than hopeful of those he’d choose to be his closest advisors in the White House and in the Cabinet. I have no problem with a president relying on advisors, but I cringe when I think how many out there would be unacceptable advisors.
Our first President started his career in politics in the White House, didn’t he? Seemed to work out just fine.
The President doesn’t draw up legislation. The President is guardian of the Bully Pulpit, and represents our country abroad. Cain, as a talented and gracious and wise businessman, is ideal for the position.
We don’t need a teleprompter reader. We need a business leader.

Perry and Cain...Liked them both, but the campaign process did it’s job and revealed who is able and who is not. Unfortunately neither is. Now would be a good time for a graceful exit.
Considering the fact that we have some 30 million + illegals in America who create nearly 50 congressional seats by their mere presence, a next time is doubtful at best.
Illegal immigration is only one issue our perpetual politicians have sold us out on.
I guess if conservatives can feel good about selling out America, there isn’t much I can do about it. I have to face my maker someday and don’t intend to try to fool him with excuses.

I agree. 9-9-9 was an incomplete gimmick, his last debate performance was awful and the Libya video was painful. He's a nice guy but won't be President.

Cain claims to support the 2nd Ammendment. So does Myth Romney. But niether one has a problem with states telling people when, how and if they can excericise it.
IMHO, Cain doesn’t know or care much about anything outside of business and the economy. And maybe blondes.
