Yes, they are preoccupied with the prospect of a double-dip recession and unemployment. But two topics that were raised again and again by people I met in Michigan this week were the brewing scandals surrounding Republican-led investigations into Solyndra and Operation Fast and Furious.
Solyndra is the solar energy company trumpeted by Obama as part of the green jobs future and given $535 million loan guarantees from federal government stimulus funds. In September it filed for bankruptcy and its premises were raided by the FBI.
Operation Fast and Furious was a botched sting operation run by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency (ATF) in which at least 2,000 weapons were allowed to be sold to suppliers linked to Mexican drug cartels.

Barry is thinking:
Thank Allah for Penn State.
A whiff of scandal? LOL - more like a force 5 hurricane.
Whiff? How about an overwhelming stench?
The Pubbies in the House and Senate, need to ride these two horses until they both absolutely fall down.
F&F was not a botched sting operation, it was never a sting, it was a criminal enterprise (RICO) headed by Obama, Holder, Breuer and Burke that ended up with 2 American Law Enforcement agents killed. This is Treason and would be considered so in normal times.
And what a welcome whiff. I’m pretty tired of him reeking of BS.
“now”?...
Maybe it’s the second Sam Adams Chocolate Bock that is encouraging this response to the title: I think Barry has whiffed a lot of taints if you know what I mean. Again, Chocolate Bock. Chocolate and beer! How can one resist?
mittengan pong
It’s more than just a whiff......it’s a huge deep breath.
Just a whiff??
I think “reeks” is more accurate.
I wish they'd quit repeating this lie. F&F wasn't a botched sting operation. It had only one goal, to gin up support for more gun control.
Whiff? How about the whole damn sewer! MSM can’t be bothered though. Too busy lynching Cain.
I agree that there is a tad more than a whiff. I have no difficulty smelling the stench from my front porch; way down south in the Republic of Panama. When the wind blows from the north, the stench is overpowering.
The American media is too busy trying to sink Cain on the basis of allegations which wouldn't even be reported if he were a Democrat, or making fun of Perry for his memory lapse a couple of debates back, or accusing the Republicans of caring only about the rich.
If Cain gets the nomination, that will be proof of Republican racism (they would only nominate a safe "Uncle Tom" black) and if Cain doesn't win the nomination, that's also proof of Republican racism (he didn't win because Republicans aren't ready to nominate a black man for President). They win either way.
British understatement.
For some reason, the following example of British understatement sprung to mind the moment I’d typed that: when Lord Uxbridge, Wellington’s main cavalry officer, lost his leg to canon fire at Waterloo he remarked, “By God, sir, I’ve lost my leg!”, to which Wellington replied “By God, sir, so you have!”
Whiff?
