It has been such a good series of debates on Freeper about the candidates...despite the bashing and hysteria.

I agree with your grading. I thought Perry did great. He lives to fight another day.

Perry was talking of himself being in charge of the Texas National Guard and he referred to them as 20,000 “people”.

The person you responded to thought Perry was talking about the population of Texas. That person was corrected by a number of people.

There was no ‘mis-hearing’ to hear if you were paying attention.

Cain is weak on foreign policy. That's a fact.

However, Cain, like every other citizen without Top Secret clearance, is not privy to the things that career politicians are privy to, because they are members of various committees with Top Secret clearance.

Do we all remember how one of Obama’s major campaign promises (yes, promise) was to close Gitmo? Then, lo and behold, after Obama was elected and he became privy to the Top Secret information that our Military and CIA have, he suddenly backed off on closing Gitmo.

Cain has stated many times that he doesn't know everything he needs to know because he is a citizen (Cain), not a Top Secret clearance-holder. He may have opinions, but he can't know as much as we would like him to know — any more than one of us can know everything regarding foreign policy.

Does everyone know about the War College? There are military solutions to most conceivable world problems, already drawn up, ready to be acted upon, right now. Any newly elected President doesn't have to start from scratch to come up with military solutions — they already exist. Cain knows this. If a problem comes up with North Korea, he goes to his Commanders and asks, “What are our options?” He is briefed, and he makes the call. No President sets the strategies. The President merely gives the order to go or not go.

My number one priority during this election cycle is saving the United States of America. We don't have a leg to stand on in the world right now because the US is so weak economically, and we have an extremely weak Leader. We need a strong Leader who will focus FIRST on THESE UNITED STATES, and second on Foreign Affairs.

Condoleeza Rice said very few newly elected Presidents come into the White House with foreign policy experience, but they get it very quickly. She did not fault Cain for lack of foreign policy experience.

Cain is weak on foreign policy. By the time the first primary comes around, he may or may not be so weak. We shall see if he can be a quick study or not.

(Full disclaimer: I like Gingrich and Cain)

You’re right about the depth of Perry-hatred among a hard-core group of posters on this site. They hate Perry much, much more than they hate Romney... which says more about them than it does about Perry.

I am now in the Newt camp, though I was formerly for Perry. But I’ll never forget the unreasonable, irrational hatred of Perry by a hard-core group of posters on this site.

Nice, personal attacks. I guess that's what the single digit Perry folks have to debate with.

Just curious, what do you think of Newt’s recent backtrack on deregulating banks: http://www.examiner.com/liberal-in-orlando/newt-gingrich-admits-deregulation-was-bad-for-the-country

and also what do you think about his idea to make the unemployed take classes while they are out of work?

I’m really just unsure about Newt (not my guy either) and I’m trying to get an understanding of what he’s about.

Thanks

I’m a Perry supporter and I certainly haven’t given up on him.

There are people here who hate him because of ideas they have about his position on illegals; ideas that are totally wrong, but don’t even try to explain to them. I do not bother with them.

He’s really the best candidate. He’s experienced, conservative, talks the talk, but also walked it in 11 years in Texas.

If Perry doesn’t make it, I would reluctantly vote for Gingrich. I like Newt but his glib repartee in debating format, while wildly entertaining, doesn’t translate that well into making inspiring speeches or pressing the flesh.

And Newt has a little baggage but not enough to disqualify him.

I actually think Perry’s brain freeze moment the other night may have helped him. It got a lot of people noticing him and thinking, sheesh, that’s happened to me.

Is that it? One issue? Because every one of these candidates have some issue I cannot abide so who do I vote for?

If there is a candidate who hits it out of the park on every single issue, please share. But meanwhile I’ll go through my volume-sized list of things I can’t abide with Obama.

I have a list of those posters to whom you refer and I will never respect another word they say about ANYTHING.

I found Cain to be very subdued tonight, I don’t think he smiled one time. None of the ‘jolly, happy’ look that we’ve seen so often.

And, thankfully, no 9-9-9. LOL

Sorry ..that was not directed to you personally. Just getting very tired of this whole election mess, and we still have a year to go. The one thing I know that we can all agree on is that obama must go.

Cain was very revealing as to just how inexperienced and inept he truly is. He did a terrible job and merely parroted what Newt and Romney said mostly. He is clearly winging it and has no clue how or what it means to be the President.

Cain was asked the first question, and others copied HIS response, so I have no idea what you are talking about. Everyone knows (and Cain has admitted) he knows NOTHING about this subject, while Newt knows everything, so given those expectations, each did just fine. Newt did screw up by detailing proposed covert actions in Iran, and then saying they could all be "DENIABLE". That sort of arrogant, unfiltered outburst is what concerns me about Newt in the long haul.

I love Ann but she is wrong here.

Newt gives a deserved 20 second bitch slapping to the sleazy media before sighing and giving a darn near perfect 10 second answer.

No, but that's a big one.

I am a TEA Party conservative. Perry is anything but.

The TP does not agree with Perry on the big-government, nanny-state Gardasil debacle.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to the border fence.

The TP does not agree with Perry on his opposition to Arizona trying to defend itself from the ILLEGAL hordes that he wants to make citizens.

The TP opposed Perry on the TTC.

The TP does not support Perry’s warped view that anyone opposing instate tuition for ILLEGAL aliens does so because of the ILLEGAL aliens’ last names.

The TP did not agree with Obama and Pelosi’s stimulus bailout plan yet Perry took stimulus cash anyway.

Rick Perry is a big government, crony capitalist neocon candidate. He is a fraud and anything but in line with the TP's core principles.

Thank you for asking.

I think Perry finally quit trying to memorize answers and did his own talking.
A) about time
B) keep it up.
