Holyoke (MA) Peck School students learn '350' is the stable and safe upper limit for CO2 in the air

Climate change was the lesson for Peck School students recently in a program that featured formation of a giant “350.”

The number refers to a threshold: Some scientists say people must work to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide from its current level of 392 parts per million in the atmosphere to below 350 parts per million, which is considered the stable and safe upper limit.

To cap the climate-change lesson plan in late September, 600 students, teachers and other staff at the school gathered in a field outside the 1916 Northampton St. school. They divided into three groups of 200 each to form the three digits of 350, art teacher Darcy Dumont said.

“It was pretty complicated, actually,” Dumont said.

They were grateful for help, she said: A crew from the Department of Public Works painted lines on the grass to delineate the “3” “5” “0” formations.

The Fire Department provided an aerial ladder truck from which a staff member of the local Enchanted Circle Theater, which helped with the climate-change curriculum, snapped a photograph, she said.

Students were chanting, “350 means keep the air clean,” she said.

The program included students discussing causes of climate change and how it can be addressed. They used skits, poetry, posters and signs, she said.

They used the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website. They talked about melting glaciers, rising sea levels and changes in animal migration, she said.

“Students learned about the greenhouse effect generally and the problems that have been caused by people overloading the atmosphere with CO2, especially by the burning of fossil fuels,” Dumont said.

New science, standing in a formations and chanting slogans.

Do they realize that they actually increased their carbon footprint with this little stunt. The DPW had to drive out in a fossil fuel burning truck to paint the shapes, then the Fire Dept had to drive out in a big fuel hungry ladder truck to take the picture.

Yes, and now they should go encourage Democrats to practice what they preach and stop burning gasoline.

I wonder if any kid asked, "If 392 isn't safe, how come we're still breathing?"

I wonder how many of the little darlings know how to do long division, how to diagram a sentence, or know why the War of 1812 was fought?

Since this was lead by an “Art” teacher, I wonder how many have read Lysistrata, have listened to Moonlight Sonata, or have viewed Michaelangelo’s David?

The modern education industry is a farce.

There's been a catastrophic error here!

That 350 number is wrong! Unless we immediately switch course to the right number, ALL LIFE ON EARTH WILL DIE.

The correct number is 344.6950227496!!!!!!

392 parts per million? .000392? Not even 1%? Not even 1/2%? Has the whole world gone mad? And all the kids, teacher, and equipment went to the field to preach about 350 parts per million? .000350? They want a net reduction of .000040? Has the whole world gone mad, or just the state of Massachusetts?

When is this manmade-climate-change lie going to stop? How many Solyndras,useless electric cars, and STUPID school outings will it take before this hoax is put to rest?

I wonder how this art teacher would react if evidence was presented to her that the CO2 level around the planet was much higher just 7000 years ago? Deer in the headlights look? Anger? Denial? Ad hominem attacks?
