The Dems and the left have never even pretended to have moral or ethical standards, and for this reason it’s very easy for them to defend any behavior by a leftist. The GOP and the right, on the other hand, at least claim to respect moral and civic values and thus at any real or imagined failure, the left, unfettered by such antiquated notions, is always able to scream that we are not adhering to our values.
I think our response has got to be to assert those values, however, not to dump them and say, “The Dems got away with it so we should too.” Their real victory will be in making us accept their lack of values and reducing us to their level.
We do often hold ourselves or at least try to hold ourselves to some sort of standards. And that lends itself to the left to nit-pick every perceived imperfection in our very human natures.
They key difference though is when we fail, we seek mercy, forgiveness, and even punishment for those failings.
Democrats/liberals/progressives do none of the above. For them punishment is vindictive. Justice is retribution.
Somehow we need to shine a light into that darkness.
