(Machine Translation from German to English) -- ("Perry' s Debatten-Desaster : "Ähm, oops, sorry"): "There should be a settlement with the intra-party rivals Herman Cain, but then Rick Perry catapulted out of the presidential race in the U.S. Republicans. In a televised debate of the candidates had the Texans a highly embarrassing blackout. It is exactly 21.20 clock in Michigan, as Rick Perry 's presidential ambitions. For almost one and a half hours, the top eight candidates debated the U.S. Republicans already in the north gym of Oakland University in Detroit.

How did you rate the first hour and 15 minutes of Perry’s debate performance? Those who mention it say it was great but here you are so busy posting these articles:
1.”Oops...I Do Not Remember”: The Incredible Blunder of Rick Perry (La Tribune, France) (Translation)
2.Republican Debate: Rick Perry Forgets Key Part of Policy in Major Gaffe (U.K. Telegraph View)
3.Perry’s debate-disaster: “Ahm, oops, sorry” (Der Spiegel Report from Germany - Translation)

Want more? :-)
There is certainly no shortage of where that came from.
Do you honestly think if that happened in a debate vs. Obama, we would be in a good position of seizing the White House from that traitorous imposter??

Do you think a man’s governing record is less important than a gaffe during a debate?
Do you really contend that Rick Perry’s record will pale in comparison to Obama’s?
Or is it just convenient and self serving for you to post headlines from around the world?
To: Cincinatus' Wife
I would say we need to field the best, most eloquent, inspirational and compelling person who connects with average people of all parties through the TV tube to beat the stuffings politically out of Obama, in addition to person's business or public service record. Those two things have to line up, absolutely MUST line up. In my opinion, they do with Mr. Cain, and some others in the race. Gov. Perry, I am not sure sure about. Why else would his own people suggest a few weeks ago he might blow off future debates. You don't think the Obama White House smells blood in the water on that one in positioning for September and October 2012? We have one shot at picking the best, you agree with me that the RINO-IN-CHIEF is Romney, therefore (at least I have come to my own conclusions). Everybody's mileage may vary and I am willing to respect and understand that.

“Do you think a mans governing record is less important than a gaffe during a debate?”
If I wanted performance art Id buy tickets to see the Ice Capades. What do people expect of their nominee, a whole lot of image and a little bit of substance? Are we really that shallow? Im not just talking about Perry either.
An onstage gaffe or awkward moment may cause some of the audience to wince, cringe or feel uncomfortable but since when has the public developed this preference to have a used car salesman give them the business?

The reason is post traumatic stress disorder after witnessing the McCain gaffe of endorsing obama for president during a town hall meeting, among others.

I more than winced at that one. I knew he lost the election that night.

Presidential debates are not performance art. If that’s what people expect then they should also expect to find fault and not so much crucial information in deciding who to vote for.
If Perry left the audience wondering what he really meant to say then maybe they’ve been paying attention to the wrong things all along.
As I indicated in a previous post, I’m not so much talking about a candidate’s agenda as I am the expectations of the audience.
Dummy up!

He's not the first person with a brain freeze. He may actually get a boost in the polls because he can't go much lower and this grabs attention with something everyone has experienced.

.....let’s talk substance, the only agency he couldn’t remember is the one he has the most problems with! If he were governor of North Carolina I’d give him a pass but not Texas.
Perry was a guy I thought I could support prior to his entering the race. I liked his military service, his upbringing and what he’s done it Texas. But, we need as they say in baseball a 5 tool player and Perry is not.

Do you actually believe he forgot the Department of Energy that he has been battling from here in Texas?
It was a brain freeze.
I look at what Perry has been doing in regards to the Dept. of Energy and hold that much higher than what you find so delicious to crow over.

Sorry CW.... Last night’s debate debacle has finished Perry off. I feel very sorry for him.

I am sorry knowing that this is very difficult for you. I've read the headlines today and my feeling is that I hurt for you. I know you have a lot invested in this candidate. I've been rough on many threads and I regret that, but it was never anything personal. You have always had my respect, and I know many FReepers feel the same way who just don't care for Perry. I just have deep personal differences with Rick Perry and issues with him as a conservative candidate.
Hang in there...
