Rasmussen: Cain now trails Obama 48/37 (He was leading in a previous poll)
Hotair ^ | 11/10/2011 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 11/09/2011 10:11:09 AM PST by SeekAndFind

A month ago, Herman Cain edged out Barack Obama among likely voters in Rasmussen’s poll, 43/41. Last week, after the initial allegations of sexual-harassment complaints surfaced, Cain trailed Obama by five points, 43/38. Today, after ten days of allegations and the response from the Cain campaign, Obama now beats Cain by eleven points:

Businessman Herman Cain is losing ground in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup against President Obama.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds Obama earning 48% support to Cain’s 37%. Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, while five percent (5%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.) …

The latest survey was conducted the night prior to and of his most recent press conference. Cain denies the newest allegations made against him, stating he doesn’t even know the woman who is accusing him of suggesting sexual acts to get her job back. But 51% of voters nationwide now believe the allegations are at least somewhat likely to be serious and true. That’s up twelve points from a At the same time, two-thirds believe Cain’s ethics are at least as good as most politicians.

It’s not difficult to see where Cain has lost ground when looking at the crosstabs. In October, he had a six-point lead among men and only a 4-point deficit with women. Obama now ties Cain among men and leads Cain by twenty-one points among women, 52/31. That’s a huge shift, one that would exacerbate a gender-gap problem Republicans routinely face in presidential elections.

The news is worse among independents. In October, Cain had a 19-point lead, 48/29, over Obama. Today that has become a six-point deficit, 35/41. Support from self-described conservatives in this head-to-head matchup dropped eight points from 73% to 65%, and now Cain loses every income demographic in the survey.

If it appeared that Cain’s supporers were giving him the benefit of the doubt last week, this week looks as though voters have serious questions about either the allegations or Cain’s handling of the issue. The survey took place before the embarrassment of the false accusation leveled by Cain campaign manager Mark Block against Josh Kraushaar, too, which could mean that the campaign will have trouble reversing this momentum quickly.

This just makes me sad. I know it’s politics, but it makes me sad.

I guess the smear campaign is working.

But we’ve got a full year before the election.

Lots of time for all sorts of things. Including martial law, and suspending the electoral process indefinitely.

Let not your heart be troubled. WE ARE ONE YEAR AWAY.

There is plenty of time for this all to become irrelevant.

Let's see what the numbers are when Cain's free wheeling presser last sinks in. Willard is still a bag of shiite and Newt has a steamer truck full of material to be hit with.

Herman hired a good lawyer to refute and challenge these bimbos. The Rats know they have an issue so will have a new one to tout out every time news of the previous one dies down. Hopefully the public will get tired of this after a while and begin to look beyond the charge.

This is not an “I told you so” because I still think Cain is positioned well and I support him 100%.

But this is one of the major reasons I wanted Sarah Palin to run. She has been through 3 years of fire and all the ammo is gone.

Cain is just starting to get hit with things, and if some sticks to him, it will hurt him. Plus, every day he has to play defense is a day he can’t be pushing forward.

He will just have to weather this storm and see where he sits at the end of the day.

I’ll bank on the zero attention span of the public. As soon as the MSM chokes on this and moves on, watch those numbers quickly change.

Gingrich is starting to look better to me. He admitted that sitting on the couch with Pelosi was “stupid”. Gingrich would eviscerate 0bama in a debate. Most important of all, Gingrich is not Romney. That is just my opinion.

It makes me enraged. I’m sick up to here with this crap. Thin air accusations can bring a candidate down? Character assassinations can derail a candidacy? What decent person in their right mind would ever want to lead?

Then this country deserves what it gets if this isn’t stopped dead in its tracks THIS election cycle.

This is temporary. The economy will be the major factor in this election.

The election IA a year away and all these baseless accusations won’t mean a thing ny the end of next month.

The law of unintended consequences will prevail and Cain will be a stronger candidate.

The left tries to smear Palin and how did that work out for them?

God is in control. Obama fears Cain, and for good reason.

If only 0bama could freeze this moment and fast forward to 1 year from now.

He can't...

So the left gives Herman Cain the Tom Robinson treatment, and we’re the racists.

The Left is doing to Herman Cain what they wrongly claimed the Right would do to Obama.

Rats have perfected the art of personal destruction. Since they believe that the ends justify the means, the use of any deceit, trickery or lie is in their playbook and encouraged.
