Walker said Monday that the evergreen decorated with ornaments and adorned with a star in the center of Wisconsin's Capitol Rotunda is a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree as it's been called for the past 25 years.
The roughly 30-foot-tall tree was called a Christmas tree from the first display in 1916 until 1985. That's when politicians bowed to concerns about government endorsing religion and started referring to it as a holiday tree.
The Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation has opposed the term Christmas tree, saying it offends nonreligious people and amounts to a government endorsement of Christianity.
The president of that group, Annie Laurie Gaylor, called Walker's decision rude and insensitive to non-Christians.

God Bless him
I’m trying to figure out what the hell “offends” means?? Offends goes to purpose...The Christmas Tree offends no one.
Annie Laurie Gaylor finds the sight of a CHRISTMAS TREE rude and offensive and demands they be removed.
I seem to remember that in 1930’s Nazi Germany, there were those who found the sight of STARS of DAVID, rude and offensive and they demanded the loathed symbols be removed.
I remember they were and we saw the end result.
Annie Laurie Gaylor stays true to her beliefs.
When they have the diverse displays (which I support) do they call the thingy next to the illuminated tree a “Holiday Candelabra”?
The whole point of her organization is to hate religion. And she’s worrying about offending someone? By shunning the central essence of the way in which another views the world?
You can mark me down as being a supporter of anything opposed by the Freedom from Religion Foundation. I don’t even need to know the issue.
And what other Holiday traditionally decorates a tree?
If the answer is “none”, then a “Holiday tree” is nothing more or less than a “Christmas tree”.
I don’t see anyones concerns about “offense” when everyone clearly knows what “holiday” a “Holiday Tree” refers to.
“..the fact that 80 percent of Americans are Christians and that are Nation was founded on and based on Judeo/Christian values”
*************************************************************
This means that calling it a Christmas tree will offend 20% of the population instead of offending 80% of the population by NOT calling it what it is, a Christmas tree.
This Buddhist says, “Amen!”
When they wish me happy holidays, I return with....... “and a Merry Christmas to you also.......”
I love this man. I wish I could help him against all the vermin out there.
Freedom From Religion Foundation?
Here in America it’s FREEDOM OF RELIGION.
You are rude and insensitive.
Go live somewhere else. No one is pushing religion on you.
I’ll see your gov trade and raise you both legislative houses here in MD.
Wisconsin, you would get Martin O’Malley, just about as far left of Obama as any governor can be, and a state house full of liberal idiots.
My birthday... :)
I am Jewish and like Christmas trees and the Christmas season. Get rid of all this multiKulti PC nonsense
His father in law has contacts with a Deli up in NYC, and he arranges to get a trunkload of stuff delivered.
Geez, the food is good. "Best Pastrami in the city", his F-i-L says, and I'm inclined to agree. :-)
IMHO,by 2016 the “radical” reforms Walker signed into law will be common practice around the country when the taxpayers figure out nationwide how hard the public sector has been screwing them.
Had to laugh yesterday, saw a sign advertising Christmas trees here in MN already.
Everything on it was wrong.

It was like reading a Craigslist ad.
Hi TribalPrincess2U,
“I love this man. I wish I could help him against all the vermin out there.”
You can, Pray for Gov. Walker in Jesus name.
Pray for us all in His name, we sure could use the help.
I will pray for you likewise.

Somebody needs to tell Freedom From Religion that Christmas is a Federal holiday. So it is federal sanctioned religion.
