SILVER SPRING, Maryland, November 2, 2011 – They escaped arrest. The “raw milk freedom riders” who illegally transported raw milk from a farm in Pennsylvania to FDA headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland and then drank it and distributed it to a crowd rallied in support of their efforts got away with their crime.
As reported yesterday in this column, this group of raw milk activists planned the ride and rally to protest government restrictions on the sale of raw milk and the spending of taxpayer money to raid and bankrupt small family farms.
The rally began at noon as the swelling crowd gathered to hear speakers and await the arrival of the caravan, which, after celebrating its arrest-free arrival, gave out milk and cookies for all to enjoy.
In the crowd of 150 were raw milk supporters from Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Ohio and throughout the DC Metro area. Said Kimberly Hartke, publicist for the Weston A. Price Foundation:
“The rally was celebratory, as the moms, with joy, took back their power and acted out their food sovereignty as citizens of a free country.”
Organizer Karine Bouis-Towe of the Farm Food Freedom Coalition read a statement from the Obama administration that said:
“Barack Obama and Joe Biden recognize that local and regional food systems are better for our environment and will support family-scale producers. They will emphasize the need for Americans to buy fresh and local.”

I was visiting a girl from school for the weekend...
We took our Corn Flakes out to the pasture, caught one of the cows and milked her right there so we would have hot milk on our cereal

All my siblings and I were raised on raw milk that is until we were a year or so old and Mother weaned us.
That is very unfortunate.
I was the oldest of 6 brats and we were brought up on raw milk. We made our own butter from the cream too.
We were never sick and so far, I have made it to 63. ;>)
I don’t drink it anymore, but probably would if I could get it without having to raise a cow.

There seems to be a kind of detente in the restaurant industry where if you warn on your menu about possible food borne illness from certain kinds of foods, then the FDA considers it not necessary to nose further into your business. Doubtless the reason we do not see an analogous accommodation in the raw-milk biz is because the big money isn’t there to fight the nanny state. But it would make no less sense.
I've had raw milk, raw eggs, steak tartar (including the raw egg yolk garnish), and even chicken sushi. But that was before.
After, I really have to watch things like that now.
But Fed-Gov has no place telling me what to eat, or not, even if listeria is around.

Listeria is far more likely from pasteurized milk; the daries that produce it are unbelievably filthy.
Raw milk contains active colostrum, which makes it much safer than pasteurized.
This is the same crowd that demands that the government pass all sorts of laws to hinder non-”organic” farming and promote “organic” farming.
I raised Nubian goats for a few years and simply loved the raw milk. Not a bit of goaty taste and I miss raw milk a lot. The stuff in stores is a poor substitute. (goat milk in stores even my dog won’t drink)
Did you know that the GOVT mandated spraying cold cuts with silica (silicon) in order to prevent Listeria? It used to be an uncommon disease.
Silicon is NOT a welcome visitor to the human body.

I’ve heard there are no carbs in raw milk. That all pastuerized milk has sugar added. Is that true?
Pasteurized milk was invented to prevent disease, and it did the trick quite well.
This invention was necessary because the dairies were producing raw milk that frequently caused serious illness.
Colostrum was in the raw milk back then, too, and yet there was a serious disease problem that led the world to adopt pasteurization.

I think my family and I will “take a pass”.
Ever since they’ve been sprayin’ them thar chemicals and pesticides, in the developed world people have been healthier and loved longer, and hunger is non-existent.
If you want to pass on that, go for it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE chemicals and pesticides. They have been a great blessing to the people of the world.
No sugar is added to milk, unless some other flavoring (e.g., chocolate) is being added. The milk sugar, lactose, is put there by the cow.
I would not drink raw milk under any conditions. No matter how clean the dairy (and no dairy is ever spotless), cows are prone to any number of illnesses—including rabies—which can end up in the milk.
