Last year two people fell of their bicycles in Seattle, and drowned...
We all do dumb things. Most of us survive.
hmmm...a riding mower that he was belted to and couldn’t get unlatched?
Maybe he had a medical episode that caused him to go into the pool in the first place and drowned subsequently
Probably a riding lawn mower. Should have had an auto-shut off.
If it tipped over into the pool - it may have struck him. Even if you can’t swim - you’ll pop up to the surface a couple of times - unless pinned under the machine or knocked unconscious.
Poor guy...horrible way to die.
Now who will be sued -- the installer of the pool or the lawn mower builder or both!!!
“The family told investigators 41-year-old Jose Velazquez Castillo couldn’t swim.”
Sounds like he already procreated.
“There are no details about the type of lawnmower.”
The lawnmower lobby is powerful.
From the article:
The family told investigators 41-year-old Jose Velazquez Castillo couldn't swim.
It might have been a riding lawn mower out of control, or he might have tripped while pushing/pulling a mower. The article doesn't report the type of mower.
“Now who will be sued — the installer of the pool or the lawn mower builder or both!!”
Don’t forget the guy who invented grass.
We had a kid in our neighborhood do that when I was little. Only a neighbor happened to find him and saved his life.
I wouldn’t really call this a Darwin award, since it’s pretty easy to do. That’s one of several reasons we have laws requiring fences around swimming pools.
****** NOTICE *****
DO NOT USE LAWN MOWER TO CLEAN SWIMMING POOLS!
I learned recently that one can drown by taking in just a small amount of water that goes down the wrong pipe. Death can occur hours later! It's called "secondary drowning".
"Secondary drowning - Inhaled fluid can act as an irritant inside the lungs. Physiological responses to even small quantities include the extrusion of liquid into the lungs (pulmonary edema) over the following hours, but this reduces the ability to exchange air and can lead to a person "drowning in their own body fluid". Certain poisonous vapors or gases (as for example in chemical warfare), or vomit can have a similar effect. The reaction can take place up to 72 hours after a near drowning incident, and may lead to a serious condition or death"
He was growing grass in his pool?
There was a local doctor who mowed his lawn on a snapper riding mower and drank Jack Daniels while he mowed. I helped fish that damned mower out of the creek a couple of times.
We had a guy die a block from our house in a small brook no more than 6-8 inches deep
He was on a motorcycle, missed a bend in the road, went in the creek face first and had the bike land on top of him pinning him down. He was injured and couldn’t get out from under the bike, so he drowned.
Weird stuff can happen.
Prayers for the family
Ambulance Chaser ALERT....
Jose Velasquez Castillo died after falling into a pool while mowing the lawn
6 November 2011
A 41-year-old Anaheim man Jose Velasquez Castillo died Saturday when he fell into a swimming pool while mowing a lawn according to LA Times. Castillo, was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The cause of the death is unknown as a pending autopsy may reveal later. However, what is interesting is that another exact same incident occurred back in August where 30-year-old Lucinda Godinez of Newhall fell into a pool with a lawnmower and died. Authorities have considered these as freak accidents as no reasonable hypothesis was rendered as to how and why this incident happened. As a Los Angeles personal injury attorney, my thoughts go into whether there was a dangerous artificial condition on the property where the accident occurred. The lawnmowers could also have been defective. But what really caused someone to not be able to let go of the lawnmower (unless it was one you sit on) and how did the death occur? Its a question that opens too many speculations.
If you have been injured on another persons property as a result of a possible negligence on the landowners part, talk to our injury attorneys in Los Angeles. Depending on why you were at the persons property and what caused your injury, you may be entitled to a fair compensation.

I watched this very scenario in a Demi Moore/David Duchovny movie just two nights ago. Financially ruined Gary Cole commits suicide by this method.
The water in the pool was more than likely supplied by the city/county utilites, so they probably have immunity since they're a govt organzation.
Yeah. I haven't a clue why I'm still around.
you and me both
i still have nightmares about the time I tried to look into my gas tank with a cigarette lighter (seriously)
I small puff of flame, and it went out (I thank GOD for stepping in)
and I sat there for about 10 minutes considering how I must be a lot stupider than I thought
