Isfahan Air Base handling maintenance, overhaul of Tomcats
Isfahan, Nov. 6, IRNA Isfahan's Shahid Babaie Air Base is unique in its kind worldwide in terms of maintenance and overhaul of F14 fighter jets (tomcat).
Commander of the Air Base, Brigadier Ali-Reza Barkhor told IRNA on Sunday that his Base is the only center for training pilots for fixed wing planes of the Islamic Republic Army.
He said his Base is also handling flights F14 planes after 33 years of sanctions which indicates high experience of Air Force technicians.
The commander said the flight of such warplanes is of significance regarding their overhaul by Iranian technicians using indigenized technology.
This Base is ready to repel any crisis using all its facilities and the personnel stationed there are soldiers of Velayat, supporting the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added.
Arab nations are notoriously poor at aircraft maintenance practices - combine that with their geriatric F-14s....
Israeli F-15s and F-16s will eat them alive in combat.

Not true..unless they fond a way to manufacture parts..Years ago, IIRC, the Israelis released a report that the Iranians were cannabalizing planes for spares..they only had 2-4 planes that could even get off the ground back then. I suspect that maybe, on a good day, for a military parade, they can get ONE plane in the air..
lol. good luck with that.
How ‘bout asking Brigadier Ali-Reza Barkhor if their pilots have the ability to eject in an emergency.........
answer: Nope
Actually, they probably have over 20 that are still able to fly. (hard to keep track since they crash them occasionally)
You may be correct...however “Still able to fly”..is NOT the same as combat-ready..
Just the typical blowhards. The site is a target rich zone with about 50 aircraft bunkers and I counted eight Tomcats adjacent to some of them. Two B-2’s would have a single mass drop on a rather clustered compound at one end of the civilian airport.
Maybe this is where the Iraqi Air Farce managed to escape to.

It is laughable to think that the Iranian air force has any operational Phoenix missile left, if they can even manage to get an F-14 aloft.
“Still able to fly..is NOT the same as combat-ready..”
You are correct. They’re probably down to about 8 or so that they regularly fly and are combat ready for the most part. (to some extent)
I’ll defer to your wisdom..you’re obviously more aware of these matters. Can I ask what your sources are?
do we have the ability to neuter them by ecm?
What a sham...life expectancy of these aircraft if they acually made it into the air in a combat situation would be about ten minutes. Even if they were in perfect condition an Amnerican or Isreali pilot would make them look like they were in Cessnas.
Airplanes are haraam - Fatwa from Imam P2.
Probably. I’m not familiar with radar and lasar defences.
The big question is: how many are able to fly ENOUGH to give their pilots enough flight experience to be competent in combat? "Top Gun"-style aerial-combat exercises stress airframes.
If we had a real president, he could have a swarm of Predators (protected by a flight of F-15's) bomb the crap out of that airbase, then fly away. Never make an announcement, just silence and "no comment". Then let the mullahs wait a few months for the other shoe to drop.
What would give you that idea?
