MYFOXNY.COM - The cat that gained international attention after being lost at JFK Airport and then being found two months later has died.

Jack was on the brink of death when he was found in a customs room at JFK but it was hoped that he would survive after intensive treatment.

He was supposed to be on a flight to California with his owner when he disappeared in late August.

The veterinarian caring for Jack said more than two months on his own left the animal so severely malnourished and dehydrated.

He developed dangerous skin and liver conditions while trying to survive on his own at the airport.

Poor Jack. I was hoping he would pull through, in time.

I can hardly see the monitor, tears are streaming down my face. That poor cat and how he suffered, and how his owner must feel. Though it will not bring him back, I hope his owner sues until it hurts and then sues some more. Perhaps then this callous airline and others like it might sit up and pay attention to the precious lives entrusted to them when people travel with their pets.

Very clever. DO make it personal. Working for the airlines just isn’t what it used to be, much more dreary, so if there’s something personal and warm like your flyer, you AND your pet will get their attention.

Damn, I was pulling for Jack, Jack The Cat. He da Man, Jack is in a better place, lots of flowers to sniff, someone to boil some kidneys for him, cut them up real small and save all of the broth for him. Ok Jackson, I hope you have a real warm place to have cat naps/

Indeed. Such a sad ending to this story. I’d been hoping for a happier conclusion.

In 1987 we moved from the Seattle area to the Milwaukee area and were bringing our beloved Golden Retriever. Earlier that summer there was a case where 5 racing Greyhounds were accidentally left on the plane when they should have been transferred to a connecting flight. The 5 dogs cooked to death in the empty plane while it sat on the tarmac.

So, I determined that my precious dog was going to fly on the same plane with me and was going to fly at the coolest time of day (the Redeye) and was not going to change planes. So, after a long day of packing, we three boarded the plane in Seattle at midnight and disembarked in Chicago. A driver from my husband’s new company met us in Chicago and drove us the rest of the way to our new home north of Milwaukee. That dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 1998 and our current golden has been coast to coast a number f times — always traveling with us in our car. He’s a great traveler.

I am so sorry about Jack.

Poor Jack.

About 30 years ago, a Tiger Cat named “Jack” lived in our apt. complex. He was the sweetest Cat in the world.

IDK who he belonged to, but he was always around and had a collar with a tag with his name and owner’s phone number.

He was quite the character and conversationalist, and always had to get in the last word.

He’s long gone, but this story reminds me of Tiger Cat Jack.

I have a really soft spot in my heart for Cats.

I first saw one in the streets in the early 1960’s and have been utterly fascinated with these little rascals ever since.

I’ve had many Cats since then, and I was devastated when my 15 years old Tuxedo Male Cat died several years ago, as I found him as a kitten, eyes barely open. I later found his brother and two sisters, all in poor health.

I saved all but one, who died in my arms as I was trying to nurse him back to health with an eyedropper and diluted milk.

I had to have another Cat put down last year because she was old and sick.

I currently have a Tuxedo Female Cat, Tabitha, and she is just a little bundle of affection.

RIP, Jack. You fought a good fight and I wish this story had a better ending.

These little rascals will break your heart.

R.I.P. Jack the Cat, we won't forget you. And if ever I take a cat or a dog on an aircraft, I'll make sure I put a padlock on the pet-carrier. No one should be able to open it and let an animal escape like that. If it happened to me, I would be frantic. I would be in living in that airport until my pet was found. So sad.

“No one should be able to open it and let an animal escape like that.”

The carrier was improperly stacked high on top of other carriers and fell, that’s how the cat got out.

AA didn’t provide pictures of the open carrier, so what came undone is unclear.

Makes me mad as h*ll! I just hate the very idea that you can get off the aircraft at the other end of the journey and your precious pet isn’t there.

We honor Jack, we honor all the other animals who have been killed, injured, or lost while being transported through cargo procedures, and we honor all of you who have taken the time to share your kindness and love with us.

Amen. My thoughts and prayers are out for Jack's family and for those of us who came to know and love a very special orange kitty.

RIP Jack.
