Dozens of people gathered at the Sioux Falls Convention Center Saturday night for a straw poll.
The event is being put on by the South Dakota Republican Party.
Voters could pick one of the 8 republican candidates.
Tickets were $25.
Herman Cain won the poll coming in with 35% of the votes. Newt Gingrich 23%. Mitt Romney 20%. Rick Perry 7%. Ron Paul 5%. Michele Bachmann 4%. Rick Santorum 3% and Jon Huntsman 0%.

I’m sure that Cain will pick up the Palin vote in NH, which should give him the win.

You are correct, but many here don’t see it.
Paul was never running for the office, he is simply expected to be out there to stay in front of a movement.

There are plenty of reasons to not vote for Romney in a primary, but the instant disqualifier beyond the muck was for me is that he stuck his nose in the governor’s race, and lost.
It’s not that he endorsed Hoekstra who is popular on the west side of MI as you know, but he should have stayed out of it.
Hoekstra should not have accepted that endorsement or kept quiet because now we really need Hoekstra to knock off Fat Deb for senator in a really bad way in a job much more suited for him, but he’s dirtied by Romney now.
But it may not matter, it will be the upper Midwest that turns the Kenyan out and maybe we can gain some national respect for a change.

Sarah Palin recognized the potential in 2008, but McCain wouldn’t let her campaign there.

Not quite.
Cheney is an American Patriot.
Yeah, remember that.
But it wouldn’t have mattered anyway then. Purple states like MI, WI, OH, VA, IA, CO etc. have apparently figured it out since and most will likely swing red next fall, it will only take a couple of states to toss the Marxist out.
It’s going to be a real beating for the Kenyan at the polls in the Electoral College.
And, if you haven't listened to him sing gospel, you're missing out.
Cheney is an American Ball of awesomeness. Didn’t mean to slight him.

Romney dropping? Glad to see Newt at 2, happier to see Cain at #1.
