Thieves have been cleaning up stealing laundry detergent from stores in Prince Georges County, Md., but special investigators are making progress.
A special crime squad has made five arrests and is looking for 15 other suspects.
Boosters will load shopping carts with laundry detergent and then race out of the store to their cars to make a getaway. One Safeway store was losing about $15,000 per month in Tide alone.
Surveillance video showed a man stealing Tide from a Wegmans, police said. Forty minutes later, with police watching, that mans accomplice sold the Tide at a nail salon. Police seized 18 jugs seized, 27 packages of Gillette Fusion razors, 11 bottles of body wash and two Apple computers
A special crime squad also raided the Universal Supermarket in Silver Spring this week, seizing 129 jugs of Tide and 72 cans of baby formula.
So he paid five bucks for this, and hes selling it for almost $25, Prince Georges County police Lt. Brad Pyle said. Thats almost a 500 percent profit. Yeah, liquid gold.
I’m guessing you just made the right guess.
I once bought two Minolta lenses from a guy who said they had an overage at the warehouse. I actually thought he was telling the truth until I thought about it.
Did you buy the lenses in the Minolta parking lot out of his van?
Actually it was at a gun show. I actually got them from a guy who got them from the one who told the story. He knew that I was in to cameras and asked me what they were worth.
I ended up buying two of them.
Now it kinda makes sense!!! Surprised this wasn't addressed in the article.
Probably get sued for discrimination if they tried to stop them.
it’s expensive, the most expensive on the shelf. It’s very, very easy to move for quick cash and people like the way it smells. I don’t think we’ve used Tide detergent in 15 years. Based on what I’ve witnessed walk out of stores over the past few years, the retail outlets must have cut back on loss prevention efforts opting to do the back-end enforcement at places like flea markets. I do remember that they have a way of disabling shopping carts at the door if you don’t pass through a cashier stand and I saw a show about this on CNBC recently.
I do remember the illicit trade in razor blades from my time working in DC. There were guys that had practically an entire grocery store in their van selling it to people on the street, including DC park cops.
Bought a 4 pack this morning. $13.00. The are kept under lock and key.
“Along with urinating and defecting in the brushes, this is what happens in a 3rd world country.”
“Stay out the Brushes.”
Tide? Why not Cheer?
Nothings cleans clothes or dishes anymore. The trisodium phosphates ingredient were taken away in 2009. The good intentions of liberals are paved to hell.
Go to Home Depot and buy a 3lb box of Trisodium Phospate from the paint department for $10, add a teaspoon to each load of laundry or to your dishwasher with the detergent and viola!, clean clothes and dishes.
The suspects are described as: young black males with extremely bright whites in their fresh-smelling clothes.
<its expensive, the most expensive on the shelf
Really? I am a loyal Tide user. My mother used Tide, I use Tide. That said, I might be moved for price, but the Tide is in the same price range as the other, non-generic, detergent. I don’t see any, price-based, reason to switch. Even when I was a poor student, I used Tide and never felt I was choosing “the most expensive on the shelf.”
Can’t be Libs doing this though. They don’t wash their clothes.
The answer to that is to put the TSP in yourself.
Is this connected to some kind of money-laundering operation?
Walmart is putting their razors into plastic boxes that must be unlocked at the register after purchase. Also doing this for diabetic test strips.
Pretty soon everything will be behind a bullet proof window and you will have the products you already PAID FOR passed to you through a small hole.....
They’re obviously not selling the Tide at any of the occupy protests.
Sounds like something out of a soap opera.
