Ohio Voters Look Set To Dump Republicans' Anti-Union Law The balloting will be closely watched in a state that could be pivotal in the 2012 presidential election.
By Paul West November 5, 2011 Reporting from Hanoverton, Ohio— An aggressive Republican drive to weaken the labor rights of government workers appears to have crested, at least in Ohio, where voters are expected to throw out a far-reaching anti-union law this week.
The referendum over collective bargaining for public employees, potentially the most important contest in off-year elections around the nation, is being closely watched for clues about shifting voter trends in a state expected to play its usual outsized role in next year's presidential contest.
Barely seven months ago, newly elected Gov. John Kasich joined other Republican governors, including Wisconsin's Scott Walker, in defying angry street demonstrations to push through a measure designed to curb the power of public-employee unions.

What you said is 110% correct. Witness Obama’s election 2008. That was about as cleanly and slickly packaged as any I’ve seen.
Having said that, it’s about high time that the GOP learns how to both market AND take the offense with our ideas. Frankly, we suck at it.
Here in WA we have an initiative on the ballot that basically says a toll road can collect only for the building and maintenance of...roads. NOT to go into general funds so it can be wasted. ALL I’ve seen are scare ads put out by UNIONS. So it will probably pass easily. I’ve never understood republicans. They fight to have things passed, have initiatives put on ballots, and then DON’T spend money to defend them. I know unions have virtually unlimited funds, (courtesy of the taxpayers they are screwing) but it enrages me that our side doesn’t put up some bucks in these fights.
I’m in Ohio and I’ve heard many radio ads with Governor Kasich asking Ohio voters to vote YES on issue 2. Notice that people think a no vote means the opposite of what the vote really means. There are 2 in this household also voting YES.
Screw the overpaid union workers who make more than the taxpayers paying their wages and benefits. IF this goes down, then Buckeyes are dumber than I thought.

All politics is local and people will vote there own best interests. In Wisconsin the law passed which stripped unions of their collective bargaining “right” has already paid dividends in the form of preventing layoffs and closing education budget deficits in various districts. The people of Wisconsin are being made aware of this and the comparisons of what was happening before the bill was passed and after are stark.
Plus the libs need 550,000 legitimate signatures just to bring it to a vote. It’s a pretty steep hill to climb.
Ohio is not a right to work state, unfortunately. It needs to be.
Our son-in-law works for the city and serves as a union steward. He is convinced if Issue 2 passes he will be laid off on Wednesday. He has been told the city has been compiling a list of people to fire for several years in anticipation of this. How the city was able to foresee such a vote he can’t answer. Otherwise he is a smart man.

These short-sighted sheep in union-dominated states can`t see the benefits of a RTW situation. Blinded to reality, they`re under the illusion that what is good for the union comes before their state`s economic future.
I lived for a time in Wisconsin and still maintain contacts there. I`ve told everyone I know there if Gov. Walker is defeated in a recall, look for VA`s Gov. McDonnell and his team to lure businesses and corporations here. I tell them: “You keep Gov. Walker, it`s a win for Wisconsin; defeat him and we`re coming in to entice your wealth-producers to resettle here and Texas, Arizona and Florida will do the same. Your call.”
If Ohio regresses, Indiana will be happy to welcome the fleeing businesses. Right to work is back in the statehouse. I don’t know if the fleeing democrat trick will work this time.
I sure hope so...but the advertising for a no vote is quite heavy handed. From police chiefs and fire chiefs “scaring” the public to equating the CVS Grandma’s Strike to their medical benefits. This stuff is running back to back in radio commercial breaks on talk radio. The ACLU called here the other day about it too!
Plus Van Jones is in town pushing this issue this weekend...going to the polls on Tuesday will be interesting to say the least.
PS. Our school levy is up here as well. The slogan is “protect our schools.”

I had a liberal friend for years who rented and always voted for the school levy. A couple years ago she tried to recruit my vote. I told her now I’m not voting for higher taxes, I’m already paying nearly $1,000 for your kid to go to school. She gave me the typical liberal line about it being for the children.
Then one day she bought a house. And soon a school levy passed changing her house payment by enough to affect her meager budget. While she never apoligized she did complain about the tax increase. I simply asked her if she voted for the levy.
Needless to say we do not speak too often anymore.
The problem is that they move south and bring their leftist voting habits with them.
So it’s pretty much agreed that it’s a good and needed law, just looks like a political miscalculation and overreach by not targeting only part of the public union population at a time?

Some of my closest friends are libs for historical purposes and we just make it a point NEVER to discuss politics. Anything else is A-OK. Interestingly, other than at the voting booth, they lead extraordinarily conservative lifestyles. I don’t get it but it’s not worth losing the friendships. Other libs I just don’t deal with at all.
What is this? Some sort of Jedi mind trick? Don’t fall for it Ohioans. These ARE the droids you are looking for.
Driving through Ohio, it doesn’t take long to see the damage that unions and their Democrat enablers have done. The defeat of Issue 2 will be just another nail in the coffin. The right-to-work states are looking better and better as each day passes.
