The White House Friday rejected a subpoena issued by the House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee to produce internal communications and other documents related to now-bankrupt solar panel maker Solyndra's $535 million loan guarantee.
In a letter to the Republican leaders of the committee, White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler called the subpoena a partisan "vast fishing expedition" without legal justification.
"The committee's extremely broad request for documents -- now a subpoena -- is a significant intrusion on Executive Branch interests, particularly given that you have not made any effort to tailor the request to the legitimate interests of the committee," Ruemmler wrote.
"Moreover, responding to such an expansive request would require the devotion of substantial resources to gather and review many documents that are of no legitimate oversight interest," she continued.
Aides to the committee's Republicans could not immediately be reached for comment, and it is unclear what their next move would be.

Ask slick Willy and Nixon what happened when they did.
I recall commenting during fast and furious that it is all a part of ‘the process.’ So now the SCOTUS will have to decide and in this case it is of direct interest to the American people being literally robbed and not protecting a staff/cabinet member from losing privacy.
He should be hung!
USA vs Nixon being the relevant decision.
Sue the SOB!
It is now headlined on drudge with this link
Ruemmler is as much a legitimate lawyer as Obama was a constitutional scholar.
Both got law degrees but decided to ignore the laws when it was convenient for them.
This is OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS, AND DOWNRIGHT BULLSHIT.
The Committee decides what they want to look at, not the recipient of the subpoena. There is plenty of “legal justification” for this investigation, including cronyism, corruption, sheer stupidity, financial misconduct, possibly criminal misconduct (paybacks for donations thru the awarding of contracts), and pissing on the taxpayer.
I hope that the House Committee finds Ruemmler in Contempt of Congress and has her perp-walked to the nearest jail (and in DC, the women’s prison ain’t the Ritz).
Eventually Obama is going to jail, along with Holder, Chu, a lot of White House lawyers, some czars/Kommisars, and other presidential staff/advisors. It is gonna be some perp-walk.
Get your tomatoes ready, friends. It’s going to be a great day when we fill our prisons with Democrat crooks and Obama marxists.
Exactly why Clinton was shocked.
Post-Nixon
Clinton administration
In 1998, President Bill Clinton became the first President since Nixon to assert executive privilege and lose in court, when a Federal judge ruled that Clinton aides could be called to testify in the Lewinsky scandal.[7]
Later, Clinton exercised a form of negotiated executive privilege when he agreed to testify before the grand jury called by Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr only after negotiating the terms under which he would appear. Declaring that “absolutely no one is above the law”, Starr said such a privilege “must give way” and evidence “must be turned over” to prosecutors if it is relevant to an investigation.
“White Hut”. Love it! Do they sell “White Pizza” at the “White Hut?”
When Al Gore was at the White House, he looked more like Jabba the Hut.
When Hillary was in it, she was like the Queen, Her Thighness, in Alice in Wonderland.
Now we have the King with No Clothes and his Wookie. Something like Grimm Fairy Tales meets Star Wars.
George Lucas: I think I have an idea for your next movie - “THe White Hut versus the Evil Congress Empire”. Coming to an election near you, Nov. 6, 2012. Get your tickets early!
Eat your peas.
We have been reasonable every step of the way in this investigation, and it is a shame that the Obama Administration and House Democrats continue to put up partisan roadblocks to hide the truth from taxpayers. Solyndra was a jobs program gone bad, and we must learn the lessons of Solyndra as we work to turn our economy around and put folks back to work. Our judicious and methodical work over the last eight months has garnered tens of thousands of pages of documents from DOE and OMB that have proven we are on the right track. Now, we need to know the White Houses role in the Solyndra debacle in order to learn the full truth about why taxpayers now find themselves a half billion dollars in the hole. The White House could have avoided the need for subpoena authorizations if they had simply chosen to cooperate. That would have been the route we preferred, and frankly, it would have been better for the White House to get the information out now, rather than continue to drag this out. Our request for documents is reasonable - we are not demanding the Presidents blackberry messages as we are respectful of Executive Privilege. What is the West Wing trying to hide? We owe it to American taxpayers to find out.
How the frack do you reject a subpoena??? This is insane.
Contempt of Congress warrant would be an excellent first start. Let's see some frog-marching.
It is time to impeach BHO2.
The Republicans have been handed a golden gift - everyone has been reading about Solyndra - they know that Obama’s Administration is involved in giving that company money. This is a no brainer! He ridicules the People’s Representatives for their oversight, he must be met with a strong rebuke.
The cover-up in this case is probably far worse than the initiall boo-boo. BHO2 is no genius; he is stepping on his own crank!
Best of all, it isn’t about sex.
It’s not like there are supposed to be checks and balances or anything.
TREASON!
OH.....I MEAN....TREASON AGAIN!!!
GOP response is way to verbose. We just need a clarification that barry is officially claiming “Executive Privilege”. Then hammer President Barry Hussein Transparent on that all next week weather they cop to it or not. Then add in the WH visitor logs, campaign credit card donations, etc. issues and this is something the GOP can run on. Those smug hipsters in the WH need some more heat.
Re your #9:
“A raid on the White House by the FBI with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife SWAT/Commando team backing them up sounds good to me.”
Good luck with that. I think that another term for such an option might be “COUP”, and attempting anything of the sort could very well morph uncontrollably into “Civil War II” which this regime might very well desire to provoke if at all possible.
A lot of people are speculating that this whole “Occupy” nonsense is an attempt to foment sufficient civil unrest to justify the imposition of “Martial Law” and sending the federal gestapo around to disarm the sheeple and possibly start “relocating” massive parts of the population to places where we can be more conveniently monitored and controlled.
If the John Holdren and Billy Ayers class Czars get their way, there will be extensive genocide well into the millions. Remember how Holdren wanted to reduce the global population by 95% at one time? I’m not so sure that I trust his later renunciation of that desire.
Now when (notice I’m not saying “if”) they try to pull that stunt I’m pretty sure that we will have at least a gesture of a civil war, and how long it takes the regime and their “domestic security force” of foreign mercenaries, Mexican drug cartels, street gangs and Islamic Jihaddists (all professional and enthusiastic killers by the way) to crush domestic resistance will determine how long it lasts.
Please forgive my pessimism, but given the America we have today I don’t see the resistance holding out for very long at all. I hope I’m wrong about that. Time will probably tell, and it won’t be pretty.
So sure; if you can borrow an Army bigger than the one currently guarding China, then by all means give your idea of holding a corrupt and dictatorial regime accountable for it’s criminal malfeasance a go.
Then let us know how it worked out... assuming that you’re still alive enough to.
You’re a daisy if ya can pull it off though!
Well said...it is OUR money he tossed to the winds! let the “sunshine” IN....Obama works for US not the other way around and we the people have a right to know why our money was wasted by this clown in chief
