What is the hype behind the upcoming test of the US emergency system?
To: stars & stripes forever
They changed it to less than a minute yesterday so it won’t be that long on the 9th.

Tests are done at 4am, when the fewest people will be inconvenienced. This will be done during the day. It’s not a “test”, it’s a “Demonstration”.
It was also done to see if the system could play a multi-minute message, as would come from the Office of the President. We know it works, we test it all the time.

The hype here is that there has NEVER been a test of the nationwide emergency system. Local and state governments will do them on occasion, but the Feds have NEVER been involved in one of these.
As a HAM radio operator and certified ARES/RACES coordinator, this test freaks me out a little bit too. It’s very much big brother.

I’m usually not into conspiracy theories, but would it be possible for them to “do something” to the system while it is down? I really don’t even know exactly what I’m asking, it just sounds suspicious.

There are 2 articles on Drudge. One states at 1900 on November 9th for 3 minutes. The other states 30 seconds at 2pm.
Geez!

I certainly hope they have a new sound to announce their message..
That stupid annoying buzzer sound currently used drives me nuts.

A government that has the power to take control of the airwaves also has the power to take them away permanently.

"...nerves are somewhat frayed over the first nationwide exercise of the system designed to alert Americans of national emergencies... If our federal government is involved in or in charge of this test, you can bet your sweet behind it will turn into a national emergency disaster!

So turn off your radio or tv. If Obama comes on it is a good time to go to the can.

The fact that the federal government can take over the airwaves anytime they want to promote their propaganda is what concerns many Americans!
If the government can take over the all airwaves in the United States, what else can they do?
Just another example of centralized government control, elimination of state and local government.

The only thing I find interesting about this is that we never had one before. Once we had 3 national TV networks all participating in EBS it seems to me we had a national system. Maybe there’s something I’m missing.
