Texas Gov. Rick Perry says America should extend work visas to allow illegal immigrants to move freely between the U.S. and their home countries _ but opposes a path to citizenship.

The only way to control the situation is with visas for people who are working.

If you want to go out and pick tomatoes all day or rip out asbestos with your bare hands, go ahead and do it. The problem is that there aren’t enough other (young) Americans who want to do so.

Employers need workers, and if you give short-term legalization to people who are here working, then they can actually go home again when the job is done.

You can't fence it and there are several really big lakes on the border and if we fence it on our side we will be giving US waters, that Texans (Americans) make their livings off of, to Mexico. Besides, what good is a fence that isn't manned? The response to that is always, "we can fence strategic areas" which is true and is Perry's position too. Perry wants to kill the Narco-Terrorist and corrupt Mexican military that is actually in control of the US/Mexican Border and turn the electronic fronteer (that Obama turned off) back on and then station troops (with the orders to return fire and defend US sovereignty) and increase the Border Patrol and fix the USCIS so they work for the country instead of the illegals.

There already is a program that allows guest workers, in unlimited numbers, for picking crops.

There are many other temporary visa programs as well.

All these programs tie the employee to the employer for the length of the visa (ie, job ends visa ends)

Perry is proposing something completely different, he is proposing a form of amnesty.

Agree. People don’t want to hear it but a lot of the illegals are doing jobs that Americans don’t want to do anymore. Not sure how many illegals are working here. But most employers would prefer to hire Americans if they could. Reality, some of the lower paying jobs Americans aren’t willing to do, and a lot of Americans don’t need to. Just the way it is.
