Arizona Sen. John McCain is not backing any Republican candidate for the GOP presidential nomination.

"I have stayed out of it and I'm not endorsing anybody because I don't think it's appropriate," said McCain on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR's Karie & Chuck Show.

He may have declined to back a specific person, but McCain said it's "pretty obvious" that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has maintained a steady lead in the popularity contest.

McCain said there is likely to be a clearer picture of the GOP field after the Florida primary election on Jan. 31, 2012.

It’s the first logical thing he’s said in years.

I feel deep in my heart that this guy is mentally gone. I think his suffering in the Vietnam prison has severely damaged his mental capacities.

If Romney gets the nomination I'll go to a third party. Don't care if it's a wasted vote - I'm tired of voting for candidates who are unsatisfactory solely because they're the lesser of two evils.

I agree, I wont vote for Romney under any circumstances, I will either stay home or vote 3rd party.

Also way back, maybe last spring. Before it got much started. He might have had the lead then.

Are you sure this is true about Romney? I have no idea what he stands for other than, "I want to be president." I will NEVER vote for him.

McLame for Romney. Well that should tank Romney’s numbers. But who knows in todays chaos. If you like the way things are in America, guess what ...Romney will do as bad or maybe even worse than Zero. I don’t believe him when he says he will repeal Obamacare.

Yeah. That’s a better way of putting it. He’s been running for how many years now? He was in the lead before the others got in. LOL!

Sorry but I disagree. 4 years of Hussein would be MUCH worse than 4 years of any of our candidates.

I have said the same thing; it is not a threat, it is a promise. Interestingly, my mother (who has voted Republican since Eisenhower) thinks likewise... and she had once been a mild Romney fan.

Not only will America be a big loser should the elite put Mitt on the ticket, I suspect that the LDS will get a proctological during the general that will leave it severely damaged, if not a (metaphorical) smoking ruin, making the election a twofer for the radical left. You heard it here first.

And none of the GOP contenders seem to be beating a path to McCain’s door in hopes of getting his endorsement, either.
