He acknowledges not being the best debater, but Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he has something that his top rival, Mitt Romney, doesn't -- consistency.
Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," the Texas governor said Romney has been on both sides of the issues of gun control, abortion and gay rights, among other topics. While that leaves people guessing about how Romney would run the country, Perry said his record as a "consistent conservative" is a reliable marker of how he'd govern.
......Perry said according to his plan, the highest income earners will like get the biggest break -- because they'll opt for the flat tax -- but they can take that money and pump it back into the economy to create jobs and invest.
"This plan is about getting people back to work, putting the confidence back in the American entrepreneur (who) know the regulations are not going to be there," he said.
"I don't want more revenue in Washington, D.C.'s hands. I want more revenue in the private sector, job creators' hands, and American citizens out there. I guarantee you, they'll make better decisions about how to spend that money than Washington, D.C.," Perry said.

One thing about Romney that really bothers me is that he’s been running for President for YEARS.
Who is this Rick Perry person?
If you look at Perry speaking with groups or one-on-one he is exceptional. The debates are just not his thing. But he will keep doing them.
We are not electing a debater-in-chief, we are electing someone that can fix things. He fits that bill.
Yes, I thought overall he did pretty well. BTW, what is with Chris Wallace’s constant start of his next questions with “But Governor...” Seems he felt it necessary to argue with everything Perry said, and from a typical nanny government mentality point of view.
Superb comments..you absolutely nailed it..
An also ran candidate.
He’s the guy who, when most people who aren’t political junkies first see, reminds them of George W. Bush.
He has one little gem of a comment, I wish he'd use even more..Everyone talks about "spendign cuts"..Perry sates it as "he doesn't want to give washington ANY MORE MONEY." I think that's a superb way of stating the problem..tand one that Americans can relate to...like a partent cutting off/reducing a kid's allowance..
Perry did excellent. Perhaps he just has a problem with the multiple person debates, and he will improve when the field is cut.
Agree, Sudetenland. Rick had a strong performance and looked and acted presidential. Love his responses to lib Wallace’s class warfare questions.
Yep, Mitt has done nothing but run for president for the last 6 or 7 years. Thats troubling to me.
I hope Perry can get his momentum back. I’m not voting for a debating society captain, I am voting for a president. I think Perry has real leadership qualities. Obama and Romney, on the other hand, are both master debaters.
I agree, but he does need to be much much better in that environment or I do not feel comfortable sending him into the fall campaign season against Obama and the media. He simply has to make vast improvement in his debating and off-the cuff responses or he is going to get crushed.
I would love for Perry to be the nominee, but he has to perform much better than what we have seen. That is why his numbers fell into the single digits.
